hey, i'm new on this forum. Altough i am only 16 and only starting to drive, i love cars. My whole family has Saabs, (3 of them). I was just wondering what it the stock turbo psi for the '96 9000 Aero?

'96 was the first year that the Aero had a momentary "overboost" programmed in. Boost should rise briefly to 1.08 bar (about 15.8psi), then settle back to 0.98 bar (about 14.4psi).

ok thanks. And a blowoff valve just makes to noise louder and thats it? or will it give a tadd more boost?

No more boost at all, just a noise that you either love or hate (I fear I fall into the latter category). Stealth is my Aero's greatest weapon (that and 300hp/330lbft, Abbott suspension and an LSD :cheesy: )

300hp!!! HOLLY..... thats awesome. Is it a 96 Aero? And i love that nosie ;) I can still hear it a bit when window down... I want to be able to hear it when stoped at light and reving engine.

So the peak boost is 15.8psi for the stock 96 ?

Yes.

You won't be able to hear the valve by revving the engine while stationary because with no load on the engine you will have no boost pressure. Without boost pressure to release, the valve will make no noise.

My Aero is a '96. There's a recent thread here where I list how I modified it.

What is your psi set at?

BillJ

It's mapped to peak at 1.6 bar, which is around 23.5psi.

k sorry i know nothing in this. So the peak of the turbo is 32.5psi but it only runs at 15.8 ? I can be tunned and run at higher psi? (higher then 15)

Yes, with the necessary mechanical modifications (e.g. free-flowing exhaust and modified inlet) for safe running and decent breathing, there are a number of tuners who will remap the Trionic system to produce more power and torque. Mine is probably near the limit for the manual Aero's standard turbo and fuel system.

Speaking of which, the auto transmission Aero only peaks at 0.82 bar (12psi). This is to limit torque to what the transmission can handle.

And yes, my car can be seen in the Gallery section of Saab9000.com (http://www.saab9000.com). In fact bits of it appear in most of the mechanical procedures too...

ok cool. my dads Aero is a manual.
My mom used to have a '93 9000 CSE and with the turbo, is messed up all the trans. it needed a whole new tranmision, so she sold it and got a '99 9-3.
Whitch one is your on saaab900.com?

Ah, I forgot to mention that it's my own website, so you're looking for "My three 9000s" in the gallery. Apologies.

The spec. will be changing slightly in the next week or so as the final drive ratio will change. I'll try to fill in the acceleration times a bit more accurately too in the next few weeks.

Thank you.

I believe all US- and Canadian-spec. 9000s had orange front indicators. UK-spec. 9000s from perhaps '94-on (don't remember the exact model year) had clear ones, so mine's as it came from the factory in that respect. The side repeaters are not original and are a later type, as fitted to 2001-on (I think?) 9-3 and 9-5 models.

cool. yeah my brother is getting my mom some clear side repaeters for her '99 9-3. My dad is thinking of tint, but i dont know?! I know it will be good for to help keep the leather in good condition, but I dont know about the looks.
