does anyone hve a link to tye list of Viggens produced by color/year/body style?

I ask because I am looking for a 2000 lightning blue 2-door. I have come to the realization that that is an extremely rare car. I would certainly take a 99, but prefer the 230hp motor with slightly stronger pistons and not a first year model. I checked cars.com and found out that blue was only for two years, so I could definitely live with a yellow, red, or steel gray car, or even black or either silver, but I definitely would like to switch from my 4 door to the two door. anyways does anyone have any info on the rareity of post 99 2door blue? Thanks

I think that SaabCentral has model year info somewhere on the site, but I can't seem to find it. As much as I hate to, here's a link to Saabnet's Older Model Info (http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/models/) page. Read the summary for each year of the Viggen and it will tell you what colors were available.

All 1000 Viggens made the first year were lightning blue metallic (400 exported to the US)

Some of the 00 models are lightning blue, but they're VERY rare...I can't recall if they were only available in 5-door that year.

The "upgraded piston" issue is still a matter of debate, AFAIK...Some folks say they're basically the same, or have a slightly different alloy composition. The problem is that the short deck height stayed the same, and that was a cause of many T7 piston problems....

If you're planning to mod past 280-300 BHP, you'd still need/want forged pistons, or to do an engine swap with a B234...

For the USA:

Blue was available in 2000 definitely as a 5 door and 'vert. Not sure about 3 door though...I haven't seen one, but I could be missing something.

Here are some production numbers from various threads on saabnet (thanks to Stickman and Viggenit courtesy of Saabusa). No info on # of particular color and body style for each year though.

Hmmm...AFAIK, all the 400 Viggens imported to the US were blue. This is from the MY 99 press information from Saab USA:

"Viggen-exclusive leather treatments complete the sporty environment of the ****pit. All 1999 Saab 9-3 Viggens have Rocky Black leather seat upholstery with textured Deep Blue leather inserts to match the unique Lightening Blue exterior paint. The upper portion of the seatbacks, front and rear, feature embossed Viggen delta-wing emblems representative of the delta-wing shape found on the Saab 37 Viggen jet fighter plane. The textured Deep Blue leather trim carries over to the door panel inserts as well, and a Viggen specific leather covered sport steering wheel, leather shift knob and shift lever gaiter complete the interior package."

any differences between the canadian and american versions? i figure speedometer figures will be inverted, as well as the odometers, which could probably be changed via a tech-2. but any other changes, mechanically or physically?

The SID doesn't go "bong" in the Canadian version.

It plays a couple of bars of Geddy Lee and then sends the aroma of smoked meat and malt vinegar through the vent system....

The Canadian versions are simply superior to the American ones, in a polite, understated, not in your face manner.

Should you be considering one try to find one from AB, BC, SK, or maybe MB. They will not use road salt (sand only) which KILLS cars.

All 2000 Viggens were available in Lightning Blue, not just late '99s. The color was discontinued for 2001, though.

so is there anywhere where I can buy the gauge faces with imperial on them(USA)? obviously I can't swap my other gauges in because they are from diff cars i.e. = false odometer readings for a particular car.

now I just need to sell the 4/5-doorviggen..

Hmmm...AFAIK, all the 400 Viggens imported to the US were blue.

I think the few exceptions to the 1999 blue cars were saab company cars - used for things like car shows, testing, as well as the Road Atlanta driving course. I think some of the cars had different options too (like no sun roof).

All 1999 available to the general public were blue, but there are some other colors out there (even some forum members here or elsewhere, but I forget who).
