Hey all,
after about 8 months of not owning a saab anymore ( i used to own a c900 n/a which converted to a turbo) and owning 6 different cars within the 8 months, im thinking of buying a 9000 for the first time. They just seem to be a little bit better in quality than the 900's and are a lof easier to find these days!
Anyways, ive been reading up on what to look for when buying a 9000. Ive written down a page and half of things to check when i see the car. This is all very usefull info but the thing is im still very skeptical about the one im thinking of buying...it is a 1991 9000CD 4dr, none hatch , with a newer motor the seller says.
the car has only been owned by her family. Her dad had given her the car and she has owned it ever since and her dad had bought the car new at the time i believe.
It says it has 225 XXXkm in th ad, and when i was speaking to her, she said they had put in a new engine from a '95. Now i dont know if the km's match up to the new engine or km's on the body of the car. I forgot to ask her. I asked if the clutch was changed when the new motor was put in, she said no.
She seems like an honest seller, and buying from a lady may be a bonus, since i asked how she drives and she said like an average person.., She says she has all the service history and receipts which i think is a bonus when buying a saab especially.
I asked if there was anything wrong over all with the eninge, she said no, its in good shape and i also asked if she lets it cool down before shut off, she said she does after a highway run. She said that headliner is saggin(typical and im not worried about cosmetics), there is some rust on the wheel well, there is an exhaust leak somewhere apparently told by her mechanic because she was supposed to get her stickers renewed but couldnt because of the exhaust leak, she couldnt do the emissions test, so she stoped driving it and has dropped 500$ off the price of the car because it apprently will need a new exhaust and she was quoted in the 400$+ range just in parts. The hand brake doesnt release in one of the caliper (also typical so the h.brake is not used), and she said that the shocks may have to be repalced soon...
now i havent seen the car, so i cant say much more. I havent asked about the typical 9000 problems that seem to be quiet the long list by the looks of things, so i dont know what im getting myself into...but if it seems to run well, with no black smoke or overheating issues, ill probably buy it. But a test drive will determine everything.
but i was wondering, what do you guys think? ill be new to a owning my own 9000 so im asking what your opinions maybe! the price seems right though, but it can also mean im going to be getting into a car that will drain my wallet, just like my last 2 c900's untill all was fixed...eventually!
