Hi Guys,

Well the seat stitching on the drivers seat backrest has got to a point on the CSE where it just looks awful, splits on several seams. So I have decided to have a go at repairing them. This was mainly prompted when I asked at my local SAAB dealership parts counter how much for a new back rest cover. £600.00  Oh how we laughed.

A trip to the local classic interiors specialist didn't help either, the fabric is no longer available, he knew this because the local SAAB dealership send plenty of 9K owners his way. "Did they tell you how much a new one costs?" he asked laughing, (why is it everyone loves to pass on bad news?) "Yes, they told me", I replied.

So how do I get the cover off? I know how to get the seat out of the car, I also know how to remove the headrest (Wonderful thing the search). However, how do I remove the lumber adjustment knob and get the cover off the seat?

Should be a zip at the base of the seat back. The lumbar knob comes off, carefully pry the center cap out and there will be a screw holding it in place. Ditto for the back rake knob. the headrest socket needs to come out also. Then the backrest cover slips off upwards. As you lift it up there will be wire clips that need to come off with needle nose pliers and there are elastic straps that need to be disocnnected.

Seat cushion is obvious, clips and a drawstring. Good time to check the seat heater elements also!

Installation is reverse of removal!

I agree the velour is better than the leather for comfort. Durable cloth also. I put 300,000 km on my 86 velour seats and the cloth was not worn at all.
