After getting my '92/93 (K) 9000 through the MOT last week with minimal fuss the battery warning light came on on my way back up the M4.
Now I believe it's just going to be the Voltage Regulator Bushes and want to know where the best place in the UK to order the VR from is, best means cheap
I don't think it will be the whole alternator thats gone just the VR but just in case where's cheap to get an exchange alternator from.
Also anything I need to know about the part, are there many different types, it's a Bosch unit in a 2.0 eco 16v LPT.
Hi mate, did u get any signs before the light came on? At the moment, wheneve I start the car, before it went to the garage that is, the clock/trip computer and the dislpay in the dash would come on really dimly lit, but would become brighter and stay bright after I drove off. Did yours do this too?
No, the battery warning light came on about half strength whilst on the motorway, the dash computer lighting has been dim for a couple of years, and my main lights weren't on.
Once off the motorway though the rear lamp warning light was coming on as if I had a blown bulb under braking.
And then one at home there wasn't enough juice to restart the car, after an hours worth of battery charging I could start and drive the car again, although only briefly to get it to the other halfs dads driveway so I could start to have a look at getting it stripped.
Bad light stoped play though and with no parts to hand I knocked it on the head until next weekend.
Hey, you know how to get to Tadley? My car is in a Saab specialists garage at the mo. It's called Symon's Saab's, aka Saabman. He has some Saab's up there as donor cars. You could give him a bell, see if he has got a known good VR. His name is Symon/Simon. Tell him Charley put you onto him. I think he is usually there till about 6ish.
His place is a bit awkward to find, Is on old army grounds, so might not be on A-Z maps OR sat-nav. The main road is Sherfield Raod, then turn up onto Campbell Road, ( look for ' used/2nd hand tyres for sale ' sign on lamp post, go to top of road, then turn right. You'll see some Saab's parked out the front. His entrance is at rear. Look on Mapquest.

Cheers for that, I will bear that in mind, and for any future repairs or spares.
I have found this though, could anyone confirm it is the correct part, I'm not going to get to see my car in day light again until the weekend and will need the part by then.
Only £8 seems like a bargain as long as it's the correct regulator. £7 shipping is a pain, but all in all not to bad, cheaper than a new alternator (fingers crossed)
Cheers
