no break lights

I have a 89 9000 turbo with no breaklights

the car had been sitting for 2 years with a blown trans thean I found a 5 spd conversion .I still have the origional switch in place

The indicator in the dash says that the running lights in the rear are not working but on inspection the are

all fuses and bulbs are good

they did work when parked

The brake light switches on the pedal stalk are known to go bad (although in my experience, they stick in the ON position). If you're sure that the fuses and lights are good, that narrows it down to the switch or wiring. I do think it's highly unlikely that all of the bulbs or even bulb sockets would be out at the same time. So my bet is the switch. It's pretty cheap, even at the dealer, and easy to change.
