Hey guys im new to the swedish car's this is my first foriegn car, by the way its a 93' 9000 cse non-turbo  but what i did is no excuse on any car. I was wiring in my system and becuase i wanted the stock deck i was using the rear speaker for my input to the amp. And idiot me when all said and done i some how reveresed it and and put all the amps power to that one speaker. Obviously it blew ;oops:, so alright i'll just buy new speakers, serves me right, but as i went to test the power coming from the radio wires to the back speakers, i get nothing, not only on the side i hooked the amp on to but also the opposite side, so all i got right now is front speakers :x. I havent made a mistake like this before so i dont know if i blew something in the deck or what. Please help just listening to front speakers really stinks.......While im on the subject of radios, i have the factory cd player in the car and when i bought it, it didnt work and i was told that the cd and radio have to match in order for the cd player to work i just want to know if thats true or can i make the one i have come to life, and also i noticed that once taking the radio out u need to enter a code, luckily the previous owner was smart enough to write it on top of the radio but if i were to get a "matching" radio with cd player how would i know the code? thanks guys
Ok, let me see if I am following you. You say you reversed the input/output connections on the amplifier. I take that to mean that you ran a wire from one of the rear speakers to the amplifier, but instead of connecting it to the speaker level inputs on the amplifier, you connected it to the speaker level outputs. Then, you connected the speaker level inputs to the speaker you were adding (presumably a subwoofer)? Is this right? You will have put voltage from your stock amplifier/head unit to the output of the additional amplifier. This could have damaged one or both pieces. The output impedance of a solid state amplifier is very very low, so it's quite possible that by connecting the output of your additional amplifier to the stock amplifier/head unit, you shorted out the rear channel outputs on the stock system. If so, there's little you can do except to replace the stock amplifier (or head unit, if amplifier is built in). If you have a multimeter or voltohmmeter, you can do a quick test to see if the rear speakers are ok. Disconnect the wiring plug, and measure across the speaker terminals. You should read between about 2.5 and 4 ohms. If so, the speakers are probably ok. If you don't have that, another test would be to put a battery (1.5V) across the speaker terminals momentarily. If the cone moves, it's likely ok.
It's my understanding that in the systems using a cassette head unit to control a CD player below, that the CD player will not function on it's own. I think of it as a single CD changer. If you buy a used head unit from somewhere, you would need to make sure the code is provided. I believe dealers can look up the code if you know the VIN number of the car in which it was originally installed. But I'd say you are more likely to find one with the code.
alright that was my plan, to replace the stock HU but i've already done some digging at a local junkyard and found some HU's but with no signs of codes to enter when it asks...i havent purchased them yet for that reason, could they work with the code i already have the HU i have now?....and im pretty sure that, that speaker is blown, at that time and moment it happened it smelt like something burnt, unless perhaps that was my HU being fried...but i'll do that test just to make sure
so yea i got a factory HU from the junkyard it was out of a 900 model. It works in my car but it didnt help my problem none. I was just playing around testing the resistence between speakers from the wires from the back of the radio that plug into the speaker... the one on my driver side (suspected blown speaker) reads 0 ohms then my passenger side speaker reading the same wires read 4.5 ohms...boggling me more why at least that speaker shouldnt work or when i put it on a another speaker it doesnt work. Could i have fried one of the actual wires on the way to the radio.... and Aaron i checked the resistence between speakers and it keeps reading 0 i dunno if its me or what, should the wires be plugged into it and have the radio on?, any help would be great
I'm a little confused as to where you are taking these resistance readings. My suggestion was to read directly across the speaker terminal (on the speaker itself), after you have disconnected the plug from the car's wiring harness. This will allow you to test ONLY the speaker itself. If you get 0 ohms using that method, sorry, the voice coil in the speaker is fried, and the speaker will need to be replaced. I am not sure whether the amplifiers for your model at external or internal to the head unit. If external (I seem to recall something about under the front passenger seat?), it could be that the amplifier is shorted, and changing the head unit will therefore not fix the problem. As to why you wouldn't have output on one speaker that's good if the other is bad, it could be that both channels on the amplifier have shorted out, but only one speaker blew. It's highly unlikely that any of the wiring has been damaged.
success i took a lil to trip to the junkyard and bought a amp (cause mine is external) and replaced mine and everything is back to normal thankfully and my speaker that i thought was blown wasnt a great happy ending lol thanks aaron
naw wicked good deal on the amp i actaully bout a seat buckle cuz mine was busted....so that plus the amp was $22 not bad at all...but yea i wired up the amp and sub right this time ;oops: so its all in working order, thanks again
