Shifting an autobox from cold start

Hi all,

In my '93 9000CSE, on morning cold starts I used to always get a very noticeable "thump" (car lurches a bit) when shifting out of P into R or D. This on a tranny that was completely rebuilt about 70,000 kms ago. But in the past few months that thump has pretty much gone away, and now shifts into R and D very smoothly with neary a sound (the way I hope it should be in the first place).

After the car is warm, the shifts are actually more noticeable but not jerky nor lurchy. And there are no driveability issues that I can notice. I check my tranny fluid regularly and it seems fine, and it was flushed once a year for the past 3 years.

Wondering what others' autoboxes shift like on a cold starts.

Thx.
