well, here she is, 1989 Malachite Green 900T16. Optional leather interior, optional factory wood shift knob... 82000 miles on her.... complete maintenance history... $500.00.... and I thought I hated Calgary!!
That is the wifes XJ6 in the background...man I have too many projects... The last pic is my old '85 8v... we lost the starter, but everything else is good if someone needs something...

ha! malechite green. i'm glad to see yours looks just as grey as my old one did  does it start to look more green under the right sunlight?

Here's my contribution to this thread;
I've fixed the suspension so now there's no sag and the front end doesn't feel like it's going to explode when you drive.
The restoration is going slow, as it's my daily driver and I'm a little shy on green.

My next road car will definitely be a C900.

Any suggestions on detailing/ exterior work(besides repainting)?
I'm planning on repainting the bumpers soon.

Sorry- they're not the best pictures but my film processing services nearby don't offer digital conversion!

The rims for c900 are expensive!

Does anyone have any suggestions about priming/sealing the underbody?
The PO(s) didn't realize they have to place the jack inside the rails, not on them! So now I've got some beginning of rust in those areas.
I want to paint the edges that go from the rear to the front tire well. I have access to all kinds of primers and sealants here and I'd just like some input because now the underside has that worn out/tired look....

The rims for c900 are expensive!
If it's not an emergency, just lurk on Craigslist until you see something a bit cheaper. Also, junkyards and Ebay seem to be pretty good for rims on the cheap. Exceptions to this rule include Incas, Super Incas, and Cross-Spokes. Even Super Aeros will be findable if you wait around a few months. You should be able to find some Sunbursts or SPG three-spokes to fit your car in very short order.

The PO(s) didn't realize they have to place the jack inside the rails, not on them!
If you wish to use an aftermarket hydraulic trolley jack in this position, you can get some of the early ('87 and older) front brake pads from a junkyard and they slot right into the jacking points where you'd normally put the factory jack. They work a treat for jacking with anything other than the factory "spare tire" jack.

Thanks for the tips, euromobile!

I usually jack up at the frame in the front end when I'm working on something other than the suspension.

Now that I think about it, I guess I jack from the control arm mounts (the aluminum castings themselves) and then stick jackstands under the factory jack points with the aforementioned brake pads. I'm too afraid of jacking in the center! I can just envision the car toppling off and the jack punching a hole in the tranny case. The local Les Schwab tire place where I used to live would jack 900s from the tranny case itself, so when it came time for me to get tires, I put my 900 on blocks and just used my work truck to bring the wheels in.

Nice find...that's some super low mileage...US car? I wasn't aware of it, but then again, I'm not really on the lookout for a new one. C900's are extremely rare here, much more so than the west coast. Of the people I personally know who have C900's here, there are probably about 7 on the road. Of the ones I see randomly, in the past 5 years or more, I think I've seen perhaps oh maybe 15 tops, not including the 7 I mentioned above. Guess you've got one of them now! They seem to appear more in the yards than on the street, unfortunately.

See? Calgary's not all bad...

Ah yes, then you have experienced the climate pains of living here. I too live in DT Calgary, but it beats the suburbs in my opinion; the layout of the city is too segregated. I am still trying to escape this weather and live by the ocean!

My dad had a 79' 99 Turbo, which we sold in 89'. It was a fantastic car, but I guess family needs came first, so at the same time we bought this 85' saloon. My dad's mechanic friend preferred it to the 85' though; I remember the turbo was such a new design they hadn't found a place for the boost gauge yet so they mounted it on top of the dash!

I like the rims I've got now, but I'm still looking for something...better. At least, more my taste; something matte black and sharp-cut corners. I sought these rims for the longest time, but they're kind of rare here and I didn't want to order them in from the states new (which went for $1500+ for a tire/rim package, not incl. S&H), so when I found some guy selling them used locally I jumped on them right away. They are Sportmax (XXR now) 006's, and I originally wanted gunmetal grey, but this is what the guy had. If I ever switch them out for something else, I'll let you know! :p

Original owner (I'm #3) had a hard-mounted cell phone installed. Long since removed, but the antenna is still there for fear of leaving a mess of adhesive behind if I remove it, despite solvents availalbe. Besides, it doesn't really bother me, and what the heck -- it's a conversation piece, right?

Thanks!

The main reason I got the idea for the rebadge was that the seats are out of a 9000 aero and the shift knob when I re-badged was from a 9-5 aero. (all leather) It has since been replaced, but the new one is from a 9-3 aero. -

The 900 aero should've been the original name anyway, so it just fits and sorta modernizes the car.

Looks like someone left some other car's piece of crap in the engine bay (that white frame thingy), if I noticed earlier I would have removed it before taking the photo! But too bad I'm already engulfed with my 85' T16 project, otherwise I would probably dig through this and see what else is interesting. I was tempted to pull the hood for its dual vent (it's even badgeless as far as the front roundel is concerned, but it's got that crazy Saab side badge instead on the hood), but it's got some rust on the front, and I've pulled and re-painted rusting hoods before (after having the rust removed) and they never turned out right.

It has the crazy aircraft seat belt clips though that my dad's original 79' 99T did! Even the seats look like the 99 seats, with the yellow release on the inside! Wow...!

The bonnet? Sure, I actually source all my bonnets from this yard :cheesy:

I'm very tempted to grab it, and I think they charge like $35 for it? Something like that. It will need a lot of work though. For one, I'll need to get a van to transport it, which is what I've always done as well, but it's a bit of a pain. Second, last time I got someone to repaint a rusty hood for me, they simply sanded down the rust, maybe they filled it after, then they took it apart to paint it. About 4 months later, bubbles started to form under the paintwork, so I know that doesn't work. It bothered me enough that I had to go and get a replacement bonnet. To get it to work with this one, I think one would have to cut out the rusty bits and re-weld new material to it. Seeing as it's the front part where there's a curve to the hood, it may be quite expensive to get done, I'm not sure. I think it costs me around $600-700 for the regular work; this one may push it up to or over $1k, which is unfortunately a bit much for me. I'm also a bit lacking for space, but I might be able to find someone to house it for me in the meantime. Or of course, if someone wanted to come and pick it up from me to do their own work on it, I'd be glad to pull it for them. But yes, very cool! :p Just, too many logistics in my way to make any use of it... :(

They were stock on classic 900s in 1979 and 1980. Some 1981s also had them.
Here are a few photos for you, some had the vent cut from a rusted early hood grafted into a later hood.

The second vent does look sexy, especially cut into the fender (good intake air flow) but I've heard that in the hood it can greatly increase rust/corrosion etc around the brake booster. If you could plumb it into the turbo intake, possibly it would pick up high pressure air from the base of the wind-shield, but it would be a long and tight piping run...

Could also be used as a vent for a tranny oil cooler...

Show us your uses of a second vent!

Definitely grab the hood, it doesn't look that rusty and those ****ers are like Saab gold, just put an ad on TSL or Saabnet asking like $250 and someone will get it :D Mind you Cowtown is a long drive to the Saab epicentre of Boston/NYC/VT and the Great State of New Hampshire. Have you bought it yet? :p

But seriously that crazy badge is crazy! Never seen one like it, and I even have the original 1979 and 1980 Saab 900 brochures...

For rust repair, you really just need to prep the surface properly... if there is no hole in the metal, just sand to bare metal and prime it and paint it... if the paint is properly applied and the surface is properly prepared it won't rust again (well within reason, of course the factory paint let go after 25 years itself). I had a 900 hood with a big dent that was really rusty, I banged it roughly to shape, bondoed it, primed it and painted it, and it still has not a speck of rust after... jeez it has been over 5 years now. And I didn't even finish painting it properly (ran out of my eddy grey touchup paint).

I think this was the main reason Saab deleted the second vent... it had no purpose and it wasn't helping anything...

I believe that grille was used between around 1980 and 1984. Totally gone in '85 with the introduction of the 16v, I THINK. It've got one from an '83 put on my '86 because I love it so much! The gold badge was the owner's doing with a can of Krylon, I reckon. They're easy to take apart and spray quite nicely, but the badge is a nice aluminum extrusion, so I prefer it left the way it is!

EDIT: Li Arc, did you see what the two-vent 900 in the yard had for a grill? One of these? VERY rare and easy to grab!!!

Yep, that's the one. Maybe I'll go and save the hood, but they are a lot of pain to transport. I'm still trying to contact some local enthusiasts to go and save the car as a whole instead.

But yep, I've never seen a badge like that before neither. You'll notice there's no indent for the front roundel, which means that the hoods with dual vents and a front roundel aren't the real deal (at least, that's how I read it). Looks like this is the case for most of those photos.

The thing about the second vent is that it isn't just open into the engine bay, there is a panel behind it to block any incoming precipitation. I think if you keep this sealed properly, it should be okay.

My 85' doesn't have that grille, but amazingly, that is the same grille that was on that 79' at the yard (the one in Saabreur's post). The grille itself was in not bad condition as well.

The GLE grille you posted looks like the one that my dad had on his 79' 99T way back then.

Looks like there's a lot of love for this car...if someone's interested in picking it up, I can see if I can get the yard to sell it whole to me, and I can try to get more pics. It's just a shame to pull anything from it, so I'm trying to refrain! :cheesy: Besides, I can't ship a hood, it's too much pain, so I can't just pull that and sell it! It also seems wrong!

Yeah there is no front roundel on the twin-port hoods, as the "Saab-Scania" roundel logo wasn't actually designed at the time, they appeared on the 1985 model Saabs. Previously the hoods were just naked on the front. Check out those cookie cutter wheels! :p

That is why you find those 3 spoke steering wheels that say only "turbo" instead of "Saab-Scania" roundel, they are from the 1984 model only.

The '82-83 or so and '84 non-turbos had a 4-spoke steering with only "SAAB" or "SAAB turbo" on 'em :)

That car is so pretty and clean, how the heck does it get sent to a yard like that? Then again I guess it is "Alberta clean" and consequently of little interest out there, just like those cars you find in California scrapyards that would be considered out East to be mint showroom condition  I remember the last time I was in Alberta seeing all kinds of stupid pieces of crap that miraculously didn't rust out yet like 1978 Isuzu I-Marks and other junk that vapourized in Montreal / Toronto before the end of the Mulroney government  I mean you can EAT off that passenger side fender!

Those seatbelt clips are crazy looking, how do they work? All I could find was a picture on google and a short description but I still don't get it. Anyone care to explain or take a video? (It'd be the first on youtube, history needs this documented!)

The belts just lay into the flat spot at the bottom and you flip the metal top back. There is no clippy thing, just belt and only belt.

Very cool and I should've kept mine from the 99's I sent to the crusher.

That's pretty sweet. It always drives me nuts when the belt gets "flipped" around on the belt buckle or the buckle is inserted the wrong way so the belt gets "folded" along your chest :x

Thanks for the message Lil Arc about the SAAB for rescue. With three SAABS at our house I just dont have the room or the time to save another one. This car looks like the 79 that was at Reyburn for years but I know Otto never gets rid of any of his cars. He has some 93s and some C900 that are nothing but a shell and he still keeps them around.

Such a nice car, wish someone local could save this beaut!

I can help you get the hood home I am sure. We can tie it down to the roof rack on my black C900!!!

Let me know

The seat belts have no clip on them, you just take the belt and lay it over the bottom part of the clip and fold over the top part and it will snap shut on the belt.
I had these on my 1979 99 and I wish I kept parts off of these car before sending it off to the pick and pull. This is before I knew about the Chilcrest trans if that is how it is spelled.

If this car is not saved, I would like the seat belts "chips and retractors" if somebody will take them off for me.

Put the plate into...
http://www.cardatachecks.co.uk/
and it comes back as "Saab 900 S Turbo Auto (5 Door Hatchback)"

There's a whole load of websites which do queries against the vehicle registration records - and will give you the car's ID as a check. Tyre sale websites, etc. I'm about to pay online for having gone into London's Congestion Charge area just now - when you do, you put the plate in, and it tells you what car it belongs to, as a check that you entered the plate right.

I think they were imported here until '83. Your only choice for a 5-door in the states is to get one that is very old, or to find one from the grey market.

For its age, that one looks cherry!

Craigslist. :cheesy:

Seriosly, just popped on Craigslist Richmond, (Usually use DC) and saw "79 Saab 900" clicked the link, squinted, emailed and bought. It is a 79 900 Turbo 5 door 5 speed. Quite rare and very similar to the car my mom shuttled me around in from age 0-5.

Thanks for the appreciative comments, guys although I can't claim any credit for the way the car looks. All I have done so far is spot it for sale, negotiate a fair price and hand over a wad of cash! I like to think I'm giving it a good home and I will continue the care that has been given by the previous owners.

'Perfect' is probably stretching it a bit but it is a good sound base for a 'rolling resto' and it does 'scrub up' very nicely indeed.

The bonnet and doors have rust in the usual places but I have decent replacements for each, just need to get them sprayed white. The engine bay is a bit crabby on the inner wing near the battery but the metal is sound, just a paint issue. I had a small welding job on the front right jacking point (for the MOT) but other than that, she seems as sound as a bell. The engine is a joy, with no rattles and judging by the revs to speed, Type 8 Primaries.

Although I bought the car simply because I like it, I'm interested in this alleged rarity angle. The car was advertised as rare but I can't find any production figures on the net. How do you know 2 dr T16s are rare? I wonder if it is a myth that has become 'true' because everyone repeats it. Certainly there was another one on ebay last week and another this week so there are still some about (and the prices aren't silly).

SOAB....yes there are flatnose 2 doors about although the turbo was an 8 valve. The technical guru where I bought mine from has one although he has converted to rear hand brake and dropped a trick T16 lump into it.

As far as I'm aware the two door 900s (notchbacks) were only offered in the US as 1985 and 1986 models and only with naturally aspirated, not turbo, powerplants. It's certainly possible -- if not likely -- that other years/engines with that body style were sold in the European market.

Would love to find a decent notchback shell around here. I've only seen a very small number -- maybe two or three -- in the last four years.

There's one in Spokane that you could probably get for $250. Bad tranny, but looks pretty straight otherwise. I think it's an '85 900S IIRC. Check on Spokane's Craigslist.

I have found later model 900S 2 doors in Canada as well. I almost picked up an '88, but the seller was pretty flakey and I just gave up on it. It was near some relatives up by Edmonton, but far enough away that it was a PITA without the owner being an additional PITA. There is currently an '86 or so for sale in Edmonton, but the owner is asking WAY too much.

Here's a good way to ensure the air intake temperature is as high as it can go. I'm surprised that filter element hasn't set on fire, wow that would be bad. :o Hope hes sporting a massive intercooler

He _has_ eliminated a lot of piping, though. I don't know if I've ever seen a turbo turned round that way, with compressor on the right. If he just punched a hole through the sheetmetal and ran a short hose over to where the washer bottle normally is, it would be a solid setup. He'd need to relocate the washer bottle, but that's no big deal.

Also, look at where that downpipe goes. That is scarier in my opinion than the filter placement. And that's an interesting way of heat-shielding the dizzy. Does he even NEED the dizzy? With that multiple-coil ignition, it would seem he could put a much more elegant hall sensor down on the crank. Where did you find this photo, Tailspin?

Because the outside of it looks the same as every other c900 in this thread. I will someday. Once I get my E-codes and air-dam from an '84 turbo. I already have the '84 grill. In fact, I don't hardy have any non-engine pictures of it.

Digging my car out of that snow preceded the most exciting/pointless drive I have ever done. Two carless girls, one guy with a car, and the Ben&Jerry's ice cream factory 30 miles away in a blizzard, with nothing else to do...

...Yeah I should've been skiing.

Why do you have the transmission in the trunk? RWD conversion?
Chillcast :D I don't have that one anymore--don't want to talk about it  It's not broken, I'll tell you that. The more interesting thing is behind the Chillcast. I've got a whole A/C system there, removed with the utmost care from an 83 8v without breaking any seals. I later transplanted it into my car, likewise without breaking seals, to replace a deleted non-functional A/C just one year after I pulled it out, thinking I'd save weight (Ah, my boy-racer phase :nono; ). It is wonderful to have A/C at long last.

nuclear944
30-10-10, 12:08 AM
I also removed my A/C after the previous owner "couldn't find out what was wrong with it". A hose was honest-to-God broken off from the compressor.

Why the hell would you eat ice cream during a blizzard? It's something a Bulgarian like me would never understand...

After this, she'll be off the streets for 2 months while I get the ol' ticker all nice and healthy again! By then, hopefully she'll also get some clear indicators, I thought I didn't like them as much before but after going back to these after the accident, I do miss them! :cheesy:

I'll also probably get a detail job at the end of summer for her, since she's due for some rust repair, after which 90 days needs to elapse for the paint to cure before detail work is recommended. Maybe she'll look as good as she does in the rain after that!

From li Arc's project thread (http://www.saabcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=187810):
Its code colour is 127G I believe, "Cochenille Red", which my father mentioned was quite popular back in the day, but to date I believe I have only seen one other example in person (at the junkyard). I may have come across one or two other examples online, but just as rare, so I'm proud to keep it in its original colour.

Nice car. What springs and tire size do you have? looks nice.

The tire size is, 195 50 R16. That is almost the same size as the 205 45 16's.
The springs in the rear are the OEM SPG springs but the front springs are Intrax. It handles really well and the shocks are Bilsteine HD's. If the turing springs handle as well I may go that way next time since the HD's are a bit rough on some roads, but still a blast to drive.

Not sure what brand they are, I got them at walmart and they were supposed to be a white light type of driving light. Well they are so blue that they are useless for seeing anything. The only thing that they are good for is for people to see you in the fog or what ever. If you need to meet somebody and they are coming at you on the road, I just tell them to look for the blue lights.
I like the look of the oval light, just only have one purpose, for people to see you, I guess that's a good thing.

I have the trim, but missing one of the spring clips. I will be putting it on, probably in the spring. I don't want to drive it in the winter but I have to, so the regular SPG rims and winter tires go on soon. I have driven her every winter for as long as I have had her. Ya just have to prep as well as you can to save them if your going to winter drive them.

Buy the way, do you think blacking out the trim in the front would look weird or just leave it chrome?

I was recently looking for some smallish fog lights and came across these. (http://www.amazon.com/Hella-Optilux-Model-Rectangular-Halogen/dp/B0002MA3P8/ref=sr_1_22?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1289404457&sr=1-22) They are oval-shaped, reasonably-priced, well-made, and get good reviews. No mention of blueness in the reviews either. I've been thinking about/researching fog lights a great deal, so I thought I'd share the findings, since you sound less than satisfied :)

I've got a lower air-dam from a 900 t8 installed on my car now, and I'm thinking I can put some small fogs behind the oil-cooler vents, as I have no oil cooler. That's why I'm looking for options.

It's a MY91 900SE upgraded to Aero look. The interior comes from my Dads 900GT (run out model, like the Ruby in the UK) He found a better looking set so this one was laying around. :P It still looks great for the 250.000km's it has been used!

It has al the options except for the sunroof and of course the AC is not working (that's almost a standard feature on classics. )

The gearbox has a Primary 7 (instead of the usual 6) and I have fitted an Intercooler set (APC set will be installed too eventually)

The exhaust has been replaced by a full 2.5" Simons without cat. Which sounds great!

Mine are Bosch. They are just below and behind the front face of the bumper. They give an awesome light, really well controlled. Don't know what's available your side of the pond, but this site's got some interesting lamps; http://www.futurevisionhid.com/home. Not cheap though, but nothing worth having is.

Yikes, HID kits are expensive! In the USA, http://rallylights.com/ is a good source for aftermarket lighting. I was thinking about getting some of these

Hella Micro FF foglights (http://rallylights.com/Hella_Micro_FF_Driving_and_Fog_Lamps.aspx) to hide behind my front air dam, since I don't have an oil cooler. These leather doorpanels where introduced in MY91 to MY93/4 (vert)

I believe they were standard on convertibles and optional on the Coupe and Sedan.

The ones I have come from the 900 TurboS Aero GT which was a run out model in Europe (in the UK the Ruby edition has the same interior) Which had the Leather + Zegna seats and Leather + Zegna doorpanels.

That's a pretty good picture even though it came from a phone and your car looks great. Other than the rain, you have the right conditions for a great picture. Over cast or sun up or sun down is the best time to take pictures of our cars, like just before a rain.

edit: oh and before anyone comments, this car is an 11/84 build, and is one of those early '85 SPGs with black SPG panels. It's a Canadian-market car. The APC wiring was moved from under the back seat (a la 8V) to where it is in the '86/up C900s, so I could have a red box under the hood like all the cool kids--I have the 185bhp spec one pulled from a crashed '93CE. Has a 3 bar FPR, and late Group 9 AID as well and runs exclusively Chevron 94, so it's reasonably zippy down low, and as far as top end performance goes, it's entirely possible that there is a remote chance that I might be able to verify that it will do more than its originally rated top speed, at just shy of 250,000km.

I'll play...

edit: oh and before anyone comments, this car is an 11/84 build, and is one of those early '85 SPGs with black SPG panels.

What you want to do is stay up well past midnight (yes, the clock is correct) getting your stock 1985 stereo to work... oh and this one has the "hi-fi" front speakers, with separate tweetr! Note super-cool Saab/Momo steering wheel with brown and tan inserts!

Hey guys i'm new to the forum.....I live in belfast northern ireland. always loved the c900 from when I was a kid and we traveled from home to the south of france in one which belonged to my mate's dad. Currently have 2, a totally mint t16s and a rough as anything n/a 16v. bought the t16s in london, had belonged to the director of a saab garage who decided to sell it. had her 3 years tho don't use it much I did have a fantastic drive round the scottish highlands this summer covering 2500 miles!
The 16v was bought for £200 2 years ago for parts but when I got it home I realised tho the body was rough the interior was mint and it drove as new....hence it became my daily driver and has covered nearly 30k trouble free....much to the amusement of my friends who gave it 2 weeks!!

EMS is a model variant. basically its a 2 door notchback (sedan) n/a 2 litre auto, sunroof, and a few more features than a 900i.
this is an example of what it used to look like ( i couldnt find a white one, silver will do :P )
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2688/4212209397_ef3e0893b7.jpg

its now manual, with a 2.1L n/a, direct ignition, leather seats, lovells springs, the list goes on...
i have fitted a bodykit from a '91 900 aero to it. the first "bodykit" (just side skirts and rear bumper extensions) i fitted to it was grey so the car was two-tone for a while. i was a little hesitant about going full white but now, i am really glad i did.
this car has come a very long way compared to what it was when i bought it 2 years ago, and in its current state i absolutely adore it :D

The NYTIMES had an obituary the other day. It was about the car brand "Mercury". A Ford, only "better". The article explained what "better" meant: Either bigger or stronger or more luxurious or a combination of the three.

I spent my time shaking my head over this. For me, "better" means superior roadholding, safety, and economy for its owner over its entire lifetime. "Better", in short, is C900.

It struck me there and then that there's probably not a single new car out there, that's been designed for these priorities. Instead, they all prioritize size, engine power and luxury. A lot of lip service is being paid to "safety", that's true, but ruggedness is OUT unless you are willing to buy a jeep type of car, and suffer what that means for roadholding, fuel economy and maintenance costs.

It's amazing how car manufacturers are managing to get away with this. Building cars that require massive repairs after the tiniest fender-bender. Building engines with timing belts, that condemn the owners to a lifetime of service bills.

Here's a picture of the C900 that's become our daily driver while we're in the States. It sat in storage for a long time because my wife wanted to drive a 9-5, but now that False Car has developed irreparable engine damage (due to after-effects of the well-known oil sludge problem), and been sold. It was an expensive lesson, but the end result was good: The True Car is back on the road again.

The wheel flares are chrome, the previous owner replaced the stock black ones with these new chrome ones. I'm not huge on chrome but it adds a nice touch. The UK plate on the front was put on by the previous owner as well. I liked the way it looks so I left it. And, in Alberta we do not have to have dual plates.

Hmmmm, I always thought the flared fenders only go well with SPG panels, but it looks like I'm wrong. I may have to look at some new ones, as mine (regular flares) are starting to disintegrate. Maybe not chrome though, but I haven't seen non-chrome ones on eBray yet.

I think Alberta may be the only province that front plates aren't required...but it's quite nice as I've got my euro plate on the front as well. Too bad it's a German plate and not Swedish! :cheesy: Doesn't matter either way though, speeding tickets are the police's cash cow here, and as it is they make enough money off of us with only the rear plate!

They have a stainless option with the full flares and they can be painted nicely albeit black or whatever. A friend has them on a 900 Convertible and it does do it justice. The flare is 1" wide and with a wider tire it does create a nicer look.

Cheers,

Out of curiosity Dan, what colour code is your car? It looks very close to mine, but maybe a shade lighter. I've perhaps found 1 or 2 other cars with the same colour code as mine, but the colour seems very rare indeed.

li Arc

Not that rare in the UK. Unless I'm mistaken Dan that is Saab Ruby, the colour of my vert and my 3 door Ruby. The Ruby was a run out model for Saab in the UK.

That may be the difference then. My colour code is 127G (I think), which isn't Ruby, but Cochenille Red. I don't think I've seen Ruby in Canada before, so I can't really connect that colour with anything. My father is quite surprised, since he recalls the 127G colour being quite common back in the day...

I do miss the spg wheels already(took them off 2 days ago) but the black steelies are pretty nice haha. Central jersey area. Not many c900s around but from time to time I run into them. cant beat a c900, good on gas and fun to drive and such a unique look

The UK plate on the front was put on by the previous owner as well. I liked the way it looks so I left it.

Like the car but whatever the front plate is, it isn't a UK one unless you are just referring to the shape.....which is common across Europe.

UK plates in the 80s/90s are in the format: Letter space 1,2 or 3 numbers space 3 letters. The first letter denotes a 12 month period from 1 August to 31 July.

I think you're right li Arc. The colour code of my two Rubies is 242. I would think Dan's is probably the same.

Does Cochenille Red really look like crushed beetles? Are you from this side of the pond with your spelling of colour?

Does Cochenille Red really look like crushed beetles?
No. It looks like the dye extracted from crushed Cochineals (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cochineal) (Cochenilles is the French spelling) which are actually members of the order Homoptera and therefore true bugs, not beetles.

Definitely darker than stock. I used Steel gray on mine and they were darker than stock, but still look a lot lighter than yours. - Looks great either way. I always wanted a red SPG, so looks great with the panels.

Do you also have a 9000 rear seat in that grey 900? I would love to see some pics of that if you have them.

If those panels are black, it'll be the 1st SPG I've seen with them. I have been highly contemplating doing the panels I have for my red 900 in black.

I have been reluctant becasue most ones I see in this thread and about are either OEM or same color as the car and I feel personally red panels would be a bit much; but the Black with Prancing moose's are looking quite yummy!

It doesn't "stand for" anything. It's just a joke reference to the Ferrari prancing horse or Lamborghini bull.

Thanks guy !

I took one year to rebuild it, now it's my daily driver
the little story : My Saab friend called me a morning and said me "a man living in Paris (Ah ! Ratatouille ) gives his 900 turbo S during this day, after he'll put in a junkyard" and you know the following ;ol;.

I do not still understand why the first owner (I'm the second :cool:) put the car in this dirt state... :nono;

You can see all rebuilding picture here : http://picasaweb.google.com/slash.tux/SAAB900TurboSTimingChain#

The picture is nice for my car, it needs a whole body paint but my money goes in another 900.

The another 900 is here : http://www.saabcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=148100 ;ol;
