My car is not in shape to be proudly presented, it needs a paint job, some extra body attention and is very dirty most of the time...

Anyway, I want to show the wheels of my son's ride... :D

All rightee than, you asked for it :)

It is all wet and dirty, covered with leaves... it does not look so bad at this angle :) rust on the wheel arches is not visible (not much but there is some), scratches on the right side, sagging rear end (maybe because of 90 lit. LPG tank) ...

Oh and maybe strip the car to a bare shell, sandblast it, and totally repaint inside and out, so its like brand new.
Forget sandblasting... good way to wreck a shell. Get the shell acid dipped and e-coated:
www.surfaceprocessing.co.uk

Loads of information out there on the process. Get reading

Forget sandblasting... good way to wreck a shell.

Depends on who does it. I've seen 2cv shells - much, much thinner metal than a c900 - blasted in prep for welding, then blasted again in prep for painting - and they're good as new.

An incompetent muppet could turn an iron girder into wibbly-wobbly scrap, though...

I run my own sandblasting/powder coating company, so i'm quite confident the c900 will be fine!!:)

I think they like your car, Eric. It _is_ shiny. Mine's kinda grey, so I could use a little shine in my life. Maybe time to mesh my grille now that I bought a new rad.

Finally reunited after the older sister's (1993 4-door c900) Summer Makeover. We'll let them play together for 2 months, until it gets so cold that the younger sister (1994 convertible) goes into hibernation.

Ok, to be serious, my friends:

1985 900S, my first Saab. I gave it to my fiancee and she loves it dearly. (very protective of it : D )
http://photos-b.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-sf2p/v113/144/28/294400874/n294400874_71313_6996.jpg

My daily driver 1991 900S... has a good bit more power than the 8 valve. Unfortunately this one has rust in all the places you don't want it on a 900, it's days could be fairly numbered.
http://photos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs101.snc1/4550_506557954585_294400874_202659_6516568_n.jpg

This is my 1988 Turbo, totally rust free with a near mint tan leather interior. It's somewhat of a mechanical disaster, needing a laundry list of small things once my indie installs gearbox I got for it. It has a trailer hitch, which I like... I haven't seen many in the US like that.

I guess I haven't put any updates photos on here for quite some time! The only differences are the regular 16" Aero wheels are replaced with the Super Aeros, and I put in some chrome tinted bulbs in the front turn signals for a cleaner look. Oh yeah, and replaced the chopped Intrax springs with something a little more practical. haha.

I'm hesitant to post a picture of mine, as it's currently three colors (had to replace a driver door, so swapped em both, and also had to replace the hood, from a different donor car) and waiting to paint it until I have my kit to put on, and that's waiting on funding. I might snap a couple this weekend, swapping in a full grey interior from the same parts car the hood came from.

Just bought this car 2 days ago for $200. It's an 89 Turbo with 125,000 miles and in running/driving condition. So far, the only problems I find are the brake lights stay on (will try pulling the pedal up with a stronger spring or replacing the switch) and one of the CV joints is in bad shape. It also has those awful passive restraint seatbelts which will be the first thing to go. If I had called a few minutes earlier, I'd also be the owner of a drivable 85 4 door in pretty darn good condition for $100, but someone else beat me to it. I got their name and may offer them $200. ;) You can't have too many Saabs around, right?

Probably my best Saab currently as far as cosmetics go. These photos are as it sat for the last several years, but it's really just dirty. Should shine up wonderfully and has only a couple very small dings in the hood (almost like hail damage, but only 2 or 3 of them). I'll post some shots once I've cleaned it up good, too.

The silver lining to the passive belts is that, in my opinion, anyway, the seats are nicer than what was fitted to pre-passive and 1990 models, which didn't have the 4-bolt seat rail system like the passive-belted cars.

Does this one come with a functional, installed turbo? :cheesy:

YEP! :D It seemed like the easier path to a turbo'd 900 for the short term, though I much prefer the sedans. It seems that it is really in decent mechanical condtion. A little elbow grease under the hood will probably have this car running excellent as it hasn't been used in years and needs it.

The PO was going to take it to the junk yard, but decided to post it on CL for the same price the yard would have given him. He is really a Saab lover (had 4 until he sold these 2) and didn't want to see the cars at the junk yard anyways. He also was not the hot rodding 19 year old that usually gets ahold of these 5 speed hatchbacks and trashes them, so the transmission seems to be in pretty good shape too including the working ignition/reverse lock feature.

You're right about the seats, too. They seem like they may be much more adjustable with the height lever and just have an overall nicer feel to them. They are cloth as well, which might not look quite as cool as leather, but they have no tears or busted seems like the leather would most probably have and are still in like-new condition.

EnG - It's the factory SAAB Airflow Kit, aka the Carlsson kit overseas. Rare dealer-installed option, didn't come stock from the factory on any cars that came to the US. Very rare here.

Just picked up my first Saab on Sunday: 1982 900 Turbo in good running condition. It was going to be parted out, but it was definitely still drivable. The trailer was a precaution: it could have easily made the 2.5hr trip home.

http://photos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs227.snc1/7429_856796550767_8610839_52119586_5663839_n.jpg

It has a couple quirks(issues): it sputters and/or dies under hard left turns, odd clunk in the back end, doesn't start easily if it sits for more the 8 hours, a few little hissing cracks in the exhaust manifold, a few surface rust spots, and petrified tires. I'm going to try to refurbish the fuel checkvalve tonight to see if the situation improves, then replace said valve and fuel filter (no one has the part locally).

This Saab is destined for the BABE rally in 2010 http://www.baberally.com/babe.esp?PG=about (http://www.baberally.com/babe.esp?PG=about)Should be a hoot.

On the plus side: head was freshened less than 20k ago, car only has 97kmiles, interior is MINT, transmission is solid/still has reverse interlock, turbo boosts nicely.

Here's one after the accident repairs, recently. Since the front was damaged, the clear signal indicators were busted and I haven't been able to source any replacements yet, so they have temporarily been replaced with stock lenses. The bumper belongs to an 83' 8V so it's not correct neither. Also, the minilites are back on since winter is supposed to be arriving soon, though it's been unseasonably warm so far. So, it's kind of back to stock for the winter. If only I could get it running again! Help me diagnose it! (http://www.saabcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=170137)

Observant! Yes, those are pre-facelift SPG panels on both the front and the rear...obviously and unfortunately there is currently no way of getting 4-door SPG panels (except for having them made...in fact, there was a member in Malaysia that had them made of fibreglass that was moulded from 3-door panels).

Thanks for the kind comments guys! She needs some reaffirmation again since she's recovered from being hit on the front right side!

Here's a chronological evolution of my car (as well as my photographic abilities!) which interestingly enough is contained fully in this thread...well, the pics are anyways, since I don't have a project thread!

Stock (http://www.saabcentral.com/forums/showpost.php?p=964678&postcount=195)
Some modifications incl. suspension (http://www.saabcentral.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1101535&postcount=358)
Front SPG panels and new wheels (http://www.saabcentral.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1504932&postcount=696)
Front and rear SPG panels (http://www.saabcentral.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1522233&postcount=728)

Definitely a lot of work doing the 4-door panels, but I recall the SC member who had it done had his friend do the whole airflow kit with the modified door panels for free. When asked how much it would cost to have a set made and sent overseas, he guessed probably at least $1000. If I could get just the 4-door panels without the front and rears I'd probably be interested...but it's probably too long past now.

edit: here's the thread (http://www.saabcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=107989&highlight=4-door+airflow), but looks like the pics aren't there right now...

I plan to make some molds for a 4-door SPG kit this coming summer, so it may be that I'll make them available once I have ironed it out. The real problem is the small section behind the rear door. Getting that to be stable will be tricky and I'm thinking I may try to support it by going further into the rear wheel wells.

Is that you with the SPG panels on CL? If so, PM me.

Been a while since I've posted on Saabcentral, thought I'd update with some pictures of my $100 Paint Job that I rolled onto an '86 Notchback. Its not done yet, mainly the hood still needs some filling and more paint since its the last part I've gotten to but otherwise its been a very fun project with pretty awesome results for the price and difficulty. I've tried that with photobucket.
It just confuses me and I give up.

Photobucket automatically provides you with the link and IMG tags. All you have to do is copy and paste the link that's shown underneath each imagine in your album.

I think that kind of pin striping looks good on the old 50s/60s cars, it just doesn't quite fit this stile of car. I think if you made that on the hood look like a jet, then your doing something.

I live just the other side of malmesbury from you, but the cars at work along with most of the others in the background. its a MOD site near tidworth. some of the cars are runners and some are waiting "restoration" the bloke who owns them is i beleve the chairman of a SAAB owners club.

That`s an amazing find and deal! It`s an early 900 turbo, flatfront (love them) and that`s indeed a VERY VERY RARE EARLY AIRFLOW kit on the car, plus the whaletale. Hope the car is solid itself.

Want a 'vert? One of those "1-owner-short-mileage-always-garaged" things? I have a dark blue one to spare in CT after my wife decided that our 17-year-old daughter needed something safer to drive ... and that the 'vert needed a safer driver. She bought a 9-5 instead, to be our US car, and the 'vert is looking for a better home. Unfortunately it doesn't make financial sense to move it to Norway where I already have another :-(

I must say that I would love it but I have a lack of funds at the moment but if its something that your not really trying to get rid of right away then I would love to keep in contact. Otherwise I would have to wish it my best and hope that it goes to another true Saab enthusiast.

P.S.
If you do keep it a while longer keep in mind I am going to be taking it and going over it bolt by bolt and going to upgrade it. It is going to hopefully be a show piece in the next 3-5yrs. Thank you for the reply I havnt even seen many that are worth buying on craigslist! One to be exact and it took montthhhsssss for the guy to sell the almost pristine condition 88'.

JKlaveness

If you like, I can try to send you a private message when we put it on the market. I'm not planning to sell it until the spring. I'd love to see it go to someone with long-term plans for it, since it should be an excellent candidate for future "veteran" status.

I'm kind of nostalgic on behalf of the c900. I've driven them since 1975. I've saved money on their ruggedness and relative simplicity when I was hard up, and HAD to repair them myself, and I've had family members (and cars) emerge relatively intact from situations that could easily have killed them if they'd been driving flimsier things. I used to wash them once a year "whether they needed it or not". Now I keep two of them under dust covers in the garage: One for warm, sunny weather, and the other for wet and snowy roads.

Not terribly artistic, but...

Here's the TFS (Turbo-Free Saab) after its first bath. I have no idea how long it's been since it got a proper bath, but the paint was covered in that gray/brown grunge that has to be scrubbed off. Too many drive-thru carwashes I think. I got most of it off, but I think I need to claybar the thing to get it really clean.

I'm down to only one C900 right now- My 1990 900S. It has fairly low miles and was a one owner car with all service records from new. It was also free, due to being left on a rental property for over three years and was in a state of general disrepair when I rescued it a few years back. The car is completely stock aside from the Team Dynamics Pro Race I wheels and clear side indicators, both removed from my previous '88 SPG project.

It is pictured below with Li'l Red (a friend's 900S), in Huntsville, AL. This was taken during a pitstop on a trip that my girlfriend and I took from KY to FL last summer.

B-Green is the best color for a c900 IMHO.

Inca's are both gross and gorgeous. I would love a set, for my truck, or my boat trailer....perfect for a boat trailer...or a steel worker that drives a c900.

If Viking Aeros had 4 holes I would have those on my car. They are scary and look like food processor blades.:lol::lol:

4 door's can be very nice. I love mine, despite it's constant electrical problems. A wind deflector, SPG wheels, and the right spoiler can really make a difference in curb appeal.16072

Thanks philjohnhb. I bought it not long after my 20th and through a combination of being such a good package / too much money spent on it i've always found an excuse to to keep it.

My work commitments over the past few years have meant i've had no time to spend looking after it, so now with a new job i'm looking forward to getting it back on the road and of course spending a little bit more money!

Ian3504, nice above-bumper rally lights. Do you have to take them off to open the hood/bonnet? Where is the switch that turns 'em on? I'm currently working on a set for my 900 after seeing these on lots of cars in Sweden, so I'm interested in how others have done theirs.

Ian3504
31st January 2010, 06:13 PM
Hi euromobile900. The lights are Hella Rallye 1000's fitted with original saab brackets but with spacers to bring them forward from the grill. They're wired directly into the main beam via a relay. Forgot to add, no problems with opening the bonnet.

Hope this helps

I believe it's called Buffalo saabysteve. I replaced the interior a few years ago with this as the Sierra beige leather was looking a bit ropey!. Since having a 99t i'd always hankered after another black & red combo.

Some moron was driving down the middle of the road.. went to get over a bit as not to hit him.. got to close to a snow drift and ended up sliding off the road.. and into a pole. My first experience of sliding off the road and into a pole in the 10 years I've been driving.. and I have to say, it's an experience I would have rather not experienced. haha

The engine bay was basically full of snow and it must have knocked a cooling hose off, or something, as it was over heating and loosing coolant quite rapidly. Haven't had much of a chance to look at it.. or get all the snow cleared out. Had it towed to a friends place until I have the time to do something with it..

That's an awesome shot! Yep, that's what it looks like up here, from October to April. Fortunately, it's been relatively warm this past month, so I haven't been able to get many shots that look like that, but because of the sanding and saling of the roads and the slush cars generate as they smoosh the new snow into the warmer pavement, it gets super disgusting up here. My car looks like it's been through a rally!

Yep, not gonna take a pic of that! :p

But yes, the only reason I like winter at all (you can ask people close to me, I absolutely abhor winter) is for the driving in the c900. I've heard an LSD does more for a winter car in snow than for the track!

C900's are also extremely rare up here, except at the junkyard, I've seen, oh, maybe 7 in the past 5 years...including mine!

The river shot is just up from New London, Connecticut. That was the afternoon after SOC '08 ended and I was showing a friend around the region. We stopped to look at the sub base across the Thames River.

The convertible was great to have along Long Island Sound, especially on summer nights.

I just got this about a month ago - I've been working on it a little here and there. Scored the wheels locally, just mounted new tires, and now I'd like to add Swedish Dynamics box and bigger injectors. I love this car - I had no idea I'd like it so much, I bought it because it was one of the least expensive used cars in our local classifieds.

I just found these snapshots while going through some old stuff. Here's some pictures of my old '88 Turbo Airflow (circa 1990). I bought this new in 1988 right off the showroom floor of West County Saab in St. Louis. In 2006, I decided to start looking for a C900 and ran across my old friend on ebay (sold for $2,000 in January 2007) but it was way too far gone (rust) to consider buying it. I ended up with my 91 vert instead - http://www.saabcentral.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1690735&postcount=933 but thought I'd share my inspiration.

It's kinda funny that I don't have any pictures of my old 2000 9-3. I guess there wasn't really any reason to take pictures of that one!!!
