i am considering wrapping my downipe, and my intercooler piping with hi temp exhaust wrap. has anyone here tried this? i have the standard SE intercooler so my intercooler piping is inches away from my downpipe.

do the exhaust wraps asorb the heat keeping it from radiating as much? i always wondered about this. if they do absorb, a normal cloth wrap on the intercooler pipe would seem to absorb the heat from the downpipe rendering it useles. or does it just act like a barrier and block the heat from leaving the pipe. i mean the heat energy has to go somewhere?

BUT, this is just a theory. i actually have no idea about the subject. my post is pretty much useless except for trying to get some more info about exhaust wraps.

Mine's wrapped. No discernable performance increase on 3" DP.

When you open the hood there is noticeably less hot air blast though.

Maybe worth it to save the small hairs on your arms and hands :cheesy:

I would guess that by lowering underhood temperatures, it reduces heatsoak, right? So I bet the IATs would go down or something.

Maybe.

im going to try it, we will see what happens

I saw this post a while ago. Looks like it does help underhood temperatures; but, may sacrifice the longevity of the downpipe. I have heard that this is why you generally should not use exhaust wrap on headers.

When this was discussed before, a few found out that once u put it on its gonna be hard as hell to remove. So don't do it on the headers. i would say DP and intercooler piping only. Whoever is trying it let us know how it goes!

who has taken off the under hood heat sheild? does the paint bubble?

I've wrapped my delivery pipe on my T5 mobile, perhaps beginning of last summer? All the way from IC -> throttlebody. Difference? It's now wrapped in black fiberglass-like cloth and it *perhaps* allowed me to retain a little better boost in the summer months. I've honestly forgotten, but at the time, I swore it did ' a little ' to benefit, which I'm sure it does... Eventually, all the 'little things' ad up to some moderate degree.

I'd shy away from the headers; They can get too hot and thus melt, also, they retain water around the headers, and basically cause them to rust out very quickly....

I *do* believe you'd get a performance increase from the headers, and to some extent DP, as it'd be keeping the exhaust gases moving with more velocity.

If your car sees rain, I'm not sure I'd do it however... I'm eager to hear about someone who HAS done their headers and see how long until they died?
