: Project Cars

The 900 Aero site has a section entitled 'Project Cars'. The only trouble with this site is that the threads seem to stagnate. Here on Saab Central contributors seem to be more involved so I was wondering if there was any mileage in having a 'Project Cars' section here? There are a number of people who already post news of their progress at regular intervals but with the current system these threads inevitably recede and are lost.

I think if there were to be a seperate section for project cars, those carrying out a programme of Mods would be more likely to chart their progress and those wishing to follow in their footsteps would have access to step by step reference guides.

What do you think?

The progress of my personal car has been too slow to really be a "project" but I'd certainly like to check out fellow driver's work and ideas.

The forum organization seems to be really quite formal on Saabcentral, each model designation only has the workshop and the one performance forum (most models). the C900 would definatly be blazing it's own trail if it were to happen.

You were one of the guys I was thinking about, your thread has been good to read but with the current system it's hard to find unless you have just posted something. I am now embarking on something similar to you so I would quite like to run a thread on my progress.

For me the whole point of such a forum would be that it didn't matter if you were a slow worker, all your info would be immediately accessible.

900aero is really stagnant, this is the place for it. I've suggested a project car forum here before, but didn't find much support for the idea. I would really love for this to happen, my own project is already 5 months in the making. I enjoy reading about others projects, but most of the time you have to search for them. What do the mods think?

I can't setup new forums, only admin can do that. However, if enough people asked or a project forum (and I think it's a good idea) then perhaps we'd get one. PM Paul or Simon on these forums, as they're the admin. Be pesuasive and pester! ;)

How do folk feel about project threads being made stickies?

Thats just as good really isnt it, although, it would mean that there would be loads of stickies and not much in the way of threads! i think a seperate area is better, they could do it in each one, 900 mods and tunin, 900 workshop, 900 projects......

something like that!?

philb
18th September 2006, 07:54 AM
Nah, I've seen too many forums where half the page is made of stickies. This wouldn't sit well with people who are looking for help/advice. I'd say you'd have 10 - 20 takers for the project board in a short space of time. Its not just for people embarking on major mods, it would be good for just keeping track of the work on fairly stock cars :)

You could a have linky type thread made sticky, just containing the links to the project threads.

Saab-Daniel

Alex, that is an idea, but how would you know when a thread has been updated?
I like the idea about a projects-forum better, I must say!

the only thing with having a sticky in the Perf Mods & Tuning forum would be that not all projects are Perf related... similarly if there was one in the Workshop, not all projects are resoration or stock projects - so it would get muddled.....

prob best if there was a Saab Project heading i the same list as where you link to each Vehicle type and Lounge, click into it, then categorised into various cars.... Sonnet, 92, V4, 99, c900, 9000 etc

just my 0.0296325 Eur ;)

I would rather not see stickies used, as philb said, we could have 2 pages of stickies before we got to the standard forum fare.

I would rather see a project cars forum sub-divided into the different types or a project cars forum for each make as a sub division to add to the 'maintainence' and 'performance mods and tuning' .

I already think there are enough c900 projects ongoing to make this a viable proposition, I'm sure the same can be said for other types.

Is there any way of publicising this thread on all the other type forums?

not sure about pauls, but simon's, is er... Simon (http://www.saabcentral.com/forums/member.php?userid=4) ;)

Paul's username is "Paul", think Simons is "Simon". There doesn't seem to be an admin forum, could post in "announcements and faq's" possibly, but maybe the lounge is a better idea, get some wider support. I think the forum should be an extra one under the models existing subdivision.

So how come you 900 owners get a projects forum and the 99 crew dont! we grow the finest 'project' threads! ;)

Youve still got a lot of work to do before you get as good as us anyway :p , and there are more of you! :)

You sure? I think that would cause too much fragmentation. I think the current place is fine, most c900's have at least some tiny mods anyway.

I meant for non performance projects.

philjohnhb

I meant for non performance projects.

I would have thought that there should be just one c900 projects page but not hosted under performance & mods but under the c900 banner alongside workshop and perf & mods.

Matthew
20th September 2006, 09:43 AM
So you think this projects sub-forum should hold performance and non-performance projects?

If so, and everyone else agrees, then it'll have to be moved.

Ey, get yer oilly fingers off our forum, don't wanna be associated with you boiler suit wearing grease monkies:cheesy:.

As my car is 'tuned' i'm quite happy with it being alongside the P, M & T.

If your going to have a coupe, you might aswell wait until there is atleast one thread relating to a restoration project!

philb

I would have thought that there should be just one c900 projects page but not hosted under performance & mods but under the c900 banner alongside workshop and perf & mods.

This is what I expected also. To me, a project car can involve performance, restoration, mechanical work in any combination. Theres no point in separate forums. My car is a good example - it has 2 fairly minor performance mods, but the great deal of money and time has been spent on restoration.

Yes I do and, going back through the thread, so do most others. A complete c900 projects forum would allow more ideas and techniques to flow and might inspire people to do more to their cars.

Well I asked Paul if we could do this and he said that there were too many forums on the front page already and that he did not want to move it.

I don't mind that. Once its agreed that c900 projects of any sort can go in here, maybe a charter to that effect?
