Hello,

I am Steve in Denver, with a idle problem on a 99 model 95, 4 cyl, turbo, with 78,000 miles. The vehicle, when in reverse or forward gear, at idle, wants to surge, on and off, about every 2 seconds.(more in reverse ).

My local mechanic, not real familar with the 95 model, has been told by the local dealer, that it needs to be "reprogramed", and that it needs to be done right, or "things can be fried". If that doesn't do it, then parts might need to be replaced.

Any insights, from someone who has encountered this problem would be greatly helpful, for me and my saab mechanic.

Have your tried just cleaning the idle control vavle?

It has been know to stick and cause idle problems. Try cleaing it with carb cleaner and then use a small amount of motor oil to relube the unit or replacing the unit with a differant unit to see if it makes a differance.

I seriously doubt it is a programming issue.

Probably just the throttle body that needs cleaning...
You can adjust the in gear idle with tech2 but only by 50rpm iirc..

Yep give the throttle body a good clean before anything else,they do get clogged up with gunge and cause these problems :)
