Good luck fella - hope to see the beast at power engineering showing those manky GM900s what a real car can do!

They're not renowned for their speed. Ummm... I think they're doing it this morning now.

Sod it. I'll have a wander down in a mo.

Last week when mine was in for MOT I was on the 'phone to them every half hour - I think they were getting well vexed

It's at the bottom of my road, so I tend to just walk down. I often take the dog too, so i can look even more trampy and they take pity on me...

"Tone is incandescent. Please leave a message, after the scream"

Well, apparently, in the 2.2 miles since it's last test (up and down the road 5 times), it now needs a new tyre, a new ball joint, and the handbrake adjusting. The handbrake I can deal with, the other two I simply refuse to believe.

I'm not quite sure how I'm going to approach getting it tested, but I'm sorely tempted to just take it elsewhere. That said, at 39 quid a go, re-testing is going to cost as much as getting the work done.

My word! You should kick off about why they missed those two things the first time.

My dad successfully sued a garage for failing the MOT on his orange Chrsyler Horizon once (no, it didn't fail for being orange :cheesy: ). They had done a pre-MOT inspection the week before and said it would be OK.

Trouble is, the place I took it initially (which was a dept of transport run place - just do tests, don't do the work, so no danger of being conned) have disappeared, so I had to take it down the road, to the guy who usually does the work. The thing that anoys me the most is that I KNOW that tyre is within the law, because he gave me an advisory the last time (3 miles ago) and said it's need changing in the next "few hundred". Not 3!

But seeing as the other place (which i trust) have gone out of business overnight, I'm pretty much stuck.; So I'll just have to let them get on with it, even though I've already had them do the welding and brake stuff (you'd think he'd of knocked the handbrake into shape??) last week.

I may as well just set up my salary to go straight to them and cut out the middleman. :roll: :cry: :x :evil: :( :nono;

That's the trouble with having an older car. Some garages will just see it as an opportunity. I was amazed that mine only failed on the handbrake and a slight exhaust blow. My Saab specialist took it for the MOT though so I guess the testing garage didn't think it worth trying it on......

Like anything I suppose, it's a question of trust. I took my 99 to the local high street garage and it sailed through. The mechanic sounded as suprised as I was but obviously the last thing on his mind was to screw a couple of hundred quid out of me. If I were youTone I'd take it for a pre-MOT elsewhere and see what they say.

Where abouts in Sheffield are you?

Tone_Depear

Heeley Green. Trouble is, generally, I trust these guys. We're on 1st name terms, and I tend to drop in when I'm walking the dog most days just to say Hi. But I refuse to believe that the DOT themselves would have missed this stuff, especially when some of it was marked as 'advisory' but not a fail.

It all depends on whos doing the test and what mood they're in that day. I use Red Lion Garage down Heeley Bridge or townend garage on Whitelane. I all depends on how comfortable you are with the garage you use.

I guess it's all stuff that'll need doing sooner or later, so it may as well be sooner. I'm just really pissed off. :-?

Maybe you should change your name to "unlucky Tone"!

That is just unbeleivable, can't you ask to talk to the garage manager for an explanation?

Still, at least you can get a matching Nokia tyre now for the front... 8)
