What is the maximum boost pressure my standard turbo, 92, 2.3 Carlsson, will deliver without overspeeding and going off the pump efficiency curve. I used to run my last car at 1.6-1.7 barg but had bearing failures quite often!! What is the overboost setting set at on this car? Standard boost pressure is 1.1 max then approx 1.0 continous but I think this car is running a lower setting. I want to put my MBC on but am concerned about wrecking my turbo. I have a variable vane hybrid built up to fit at some stage but it won't be a straight swap...

Fuel cut off will probably stop you going much beyond 1.2 bar I would think.

Your car has the standard 9000 turbo which runs out of useful puff above about 1.5 bar. If you want more, you might be better off with a Mitsu TD04 from a 9000 Aero. These are bigger.

My manual says 225hp in my 91 2.3T. What turbo is it? I read something about how the AERO's have a TD04 and make 225hp, yet mine isn't an AERO??

Jason,

Do double-check your manual. Only the Aeros made 225bhp. Carlssons made 220bhp on standard turbo by increasing boost pressure over standard 2.3t. Yours should produce 200bhp. However, it's not that difficult to get more
