hi

i'm a volkwagen nut (owner of 11 VWs at one time or another) but have always had a soft spot for saabs. my brother had an 88 9000 turbo & is currently driving a 9-3 conv. my sis had a 95 V6 900 (unfortunately, it was a piece of crap) and then a 99 9-3 viggen(?).

i'm looking at a 99 9-5 wagon, 4cyl automatic. can anyone give me any insights on what problems 99s had? what joys they had? i live in PA and it's next to impossible to find a 5sp wagon.

how do the auto trannies hold up? any concerns on the engine? what exactly are the specs on the engine (4cyl)?

thanks for your help :D

Welcome to Saabcentral.

I'm afraid I don't own a 9-5 so I can't answer your questions directly, but you can see the official recall information and service bulletins here....

Just joined myself. I have a 1999, 9-5SE Sedan. It is a 2.3lpt and has an auto transmission. The tranny is AsinWarner and is excellent. I have 112,800 miles on my car and pull a 2,000lb travel trailer from Florida to NE US annually (about 6,000 miles total each year). It handles pulling the trailer in the mountains very well. This might give you an idea how the wagon with a full load might handle. The V6 in this car is as good a the I4 but uses a little more fuel. All 99s had to have ECU replaced due to faulty manufacture of circuit board. The 2.3 is 170hp and develops 207 lb ft of torque from 1800 to 3200 rpm. Good Saab hunting. :D
