Whenever I make the long trip to and from school (about 6.5 hours), the Magnaflow gives me a headache. The droning gets pretty awful after a couple hours on the highway, especially around 75 mph / 2500-3000 RPMs. I have a universal Magnaflow with dual square tips with stock piping and sock resonator still in place. Just zooming around town is okay, but only because I'm constantly changing RPMs.

Now I know the BSR/Ferrita exhausts are pretty quiet. What makes them this way? I'm thinking of taking out the center resonator and adding another Magnaflow muffler beneath the car... I'm also thinking of eventually springing for an actual exhaust that is engineering to reduce highway drone. Has anyone taken steps to eliminate this kind of noise? What can I do?

I think part of your problem is the 2.25in factory exhaust to the 2.5in muffler. The full 2.5in cat-back systems have 2.5in piping throughout, keeping everything moving along on a set path. When there's small piping mated to larger piping, it gets notably louder. The reason the whole setup isn't obnoxiously loud is because it has room to resonate inside the piping, plus there's a muffler right after the increase in piping diameter. With your setup, there isn't much room for that sound to bounce around inside, so it bounce out.

It's really just the acoustics of everything...if you went with 2.5in piping and a 2.5in resonator, I'm sure it would sound much quieter.

I recently changed my muffler from Apexi N1 Turbo muffler to Apexi WS2 Turbo Muffler and I love the quietness...
With N1 ( had it for 3 years ) it was too loud in the freeway..however, with the WS2 muffler..it is lot quieter ..

They both are straight through muffler..which means piping is straight out..
However, biggest difference is at idling WS2 is louder however, while driving WS2 is very quiet.

I used to drive a Jetta with a Greddy exhaust and I will agree that on the highway that style is quite annoying. I have an 05 Linear and Im looking for something a little throatier(sp) but not something that will make it sound annoying. Any suggestions for a guy on a budget? Just get that WS2 from Apexi and just get 2.5 in piping from the local muffler shop? What about a header or any other piping to make the turbo breath a lil easier? The open air intake is helping but i would like to finish it off by doing the exhaust. Also how much would doing this void the warranty?

My dealership has no issue with modified exhaust, so long as you're just doing a catback and you can bolt the stock one back on if you eventually turn the car in (lease).

Auto....Sleeper is right on target. I have a 3" JT system from turbo to tailpipe and it's only marginally louder than stock at idle and cruising. It howls at WOT, but that's ok...My wife's car is totally stock and I get to compare daily. While there's a definitely deeper tone to mine, it's not significantly louder at all. And it doesn't look like it fell off a Honda.

It's straight-through construction for both the rear muffler and the center resonator. Very little exhaust flow disruption......

Hmmm, that's something to keep in mind. Maybe instead of just opting for another muffler, I'll have some new piping fabbed up.

I think the main problem is, it sounds pretty good. I don't think it looks right on the car either, but at least it doesn't sound like a hon-duh.

Anyone have any experience with the Taliaferro branded exhaust that Genuine Saab is offering? It's a catback system that uses a Magnaflow muffler.
