when the car is cold, you have to shift it into second at a stop otherwise the car vibrates really bad, but when you downshift it, it is fine. once warm or when you shift for it when cold, it runs perfect. what should i do to remedy the situation?

Welcome to SaabCentral, hpgofastsaab.
I assume you're talking about an automatic transmission? What year and model/engine? Mileage?
Has the transmission been serviced to schedule (transmission fluid and filter change every 24K miles or two years)? If not, I'd do this ASAP and see if it makes any difference before looking any further.
It might turn out not to be a transmission fault at all but something else - perhaps the idle control valve.

1987 saab 9000 turbo, automatic transmission. recently bought it for my girlfriend so im not sure about the services, the seller said he kept up with it. it has 143000 miles on it. i just dont get why it is doing this only when its cold, otherwise it shifts rather well, and dosent slip or anything like that.
