: Dyno day| Nov. 12 (open invite)
I'm copying this Directly from my local DSM list..
*I* am organizing this, so everything has to come through me.
I'm opening it up to you local MA/NH/CT/RI guys, too.
I'm going to try and organize this even for us a little more locally, and HOPEFULLY before snow falls. In the couple quick conversations, This Dave seems like a nice-enough guy, I'm going to pop by the shop later to scope it out.
He offered the 5th as an open day, but that's VERY soon.
He also gave the 12th as a back-up. (what I'm shooting for) (I' I realize that most of you have saturdays planned for Families, So I'm shooting for Sundays.
Please reply to this post if you're interested. (PM's are good, too)
Also, feel free to pass this along to others, but please be sure we're inviting people that live up to the NEDSM "standard".
if any of you want to look, here's the shop's site.
It's in Sterling MA, which makes it VERY central for Everyone, instead of trucking on up to ME. (we still love you, f1-Dave).
here's an e-mail I got from Dave with details on a "club day"
(I'll cliff-note it @ the bottom if you don't want to read it)
Thanks for your interest in our shop. Not sure whether you are looking to
dyno 2WD or AWD vehicles or a combination of the two, so I will give you all
Dyno day pricing is $75 per AWD car (usual price is $100) and $60 per 2WD
car (regularly $75). If both 2WD and AWD vehicles will be present, we only
ask that all of the same type of vehicle dyno together to avoid switching
between modes as the day progresses. This price includes up to 3
consecutive horsepower pulls and a BBQ lunch (hotdogs and hamburgers) for
paying guests. Pricing reflects a 10 car minimum and the organizer is
responsible for all correspondence and collecting money from those
interested in attending. I can provide you with a check sheet for organizing the event.
Each person will receive one graph of hp and torque. They will also receive
another showing air/fuel and boost (if applicable). As for race fuel, no
problem however it DESTROYS our wideband sensors. There is a $10 fee per
person using leaded race fuel.
As for tuning/baseline runs...We have no problem with people making some
tweaks between runs but if there are guys planning on trying to tune a
standalone from scratch, the dyno day really isn't the place. Honestly, it
just tends to take up a lot of time while other guys are waiting to dyno
their cars. I usually recommend that these guys come back for tuning or
rent the dyno (as we rent it hourly to shops, clubs, and individuals) on
I realize it's a lot of info so feel free to give us a ring at the shop or
email for more info. BTW, which type of vehicle are you looking to dyno
AWD base-pull = $75 for 3-pulls (includes wideband)
FWD base-pull = $ 60 for 3-pulls (includes Wideband)
+$10 if you'r eusing Racegas with the wideband.
Price Includes lunch BBQ (burgers/dogs)
Reading into it, you're allowed some time between pulls to make changes in tuning. I'm leaving it to Dave's discretion if there's extra charges for long down-time.
27-10-05, 02:42 PM
November 12, right???
whoops.... I'll correct that!
Also, guys.. Don't be Intimidated by the fact that DSM's will be there..
They're all car-guys just like us, and they all love *my* 9-3.
it'll be an opportunity for more saab guys to suprise the DSM guys.
Besides.. the last DSM-dyno day that I went to, I was FAR from making the least amount of HP.
29-10-05, 11:16 AM
if I can get my red headed stepchild of a DSM Sebring running right I might be out there
It looks like this is going ot be moved to the 19th, actually.
I have to get in touch With Dave Again.
30-10-05, 02:29 PM
If its the 19th I'll be there Craig. And I might be bringing my buddy in his Supra if that's okay?
it is the 19th now....
I'll put you in for 2
there is a chance that i too will be coming
31-10-05, 09:49 AM
Oh why oh why should I dyno my car again...It would have gotten about 5 days of drving between dyno runs if I do go again. But, I do have the new plugs to put in. I should contact NGK and see if they want to split the dyno cost. Basically I'll be evaluating their spark plugs in terms of hp and torque gains.
31-10-05, 01:56 PM
what is that?
I might be down to get a dyno run or two!
dan im hoping to have my car here as of the 13th and drive out there form here, possibly making a detour along the way, so we could head out together
I mean no kids coming and drag racing through the park, doing burnouts or just general disrespect. I'm all for a good time And swearing like it's my job, but I can't have people acting like fools where my name's involved.
That's all. plan on a good time with some impressive HP numbers from local DSM'rs.
31-10-05, 02:26 PM
I gotta see what is going on (check my calendar) and then try and remember. this is a busy month. but i would really like to go!
31-10-05, 02:50 PM
I've notified the saablink crowd. BEWARE!!!! :cheesy:
You guys (dan/mike) really should tryto make it. Hopefully we can make this into a quick impromptu meet to close out the season with.
i really want to go, but i have so much to do before then! and after that!
i think im gonna attempt to come, maybe blow a trans, it'll be a good time  , no real reason to come unless i get megasquirt back up and running though, so its gonna come down to how much time i have over the weekends between now and then...put me down as a strong maybe for now ;)
31-10-05, 07:43 PM
Very nice, this could end up being a good meet.
01-11-05, 11:44 AM
someone remind me like in a week. I have a great memory.
The more the merrier!
like I said, tell your friends/other boards.
I'm making a time-slot sign-up list.
I posted this on TSL, and I'll be going between here, NEDSM and TSL to make sure it's organized.
Here goes the list: Sign up now, or you get what I give you. http://newengdsm.org/forums/images/smiles/icon_wink.gif
The only fair way to do it is by reply. (Bribes if we have to)
Remember guys, even though it's 9am, it's 9am in MA, not portland ME.
Set the car up friday night, and leave your house @ 8:30.
i call 1:30, so you mean we have to be at the place by 9?
04-11-05, 04:34 PM
yeah If I am not until late in the day can i show like at noon?
Show up whenever you want.
you miss a lot by not showing up early, though.
holy crap... I have a ton ow AWD's Coming.
all of these guys should make impressive numbers.
most Are 400+AWHP (or VERY close)
looks Good yet:
9- Bill Kehn <-2.4L monster worth showing up for)
9:30- Dennis Fernald <2L, ~350AWHP
10- Nichols <-2L, ~420HP
10:30-Benny (no idea)
11-David M (no idea)
11:30-mike H <- 2L 400+HP
12-Matt Thomas ~400HP
12:30 Kevin Jewer EVO rs runs low 12's
1-G96nt (me) <- we all know my Story.
1:30 MG_TD <- no idea =0/
I have a Few FWD DSM's coming, but they haven't picked times.
06-11-05, 05:52 PM
So this seems to be turning into 4 or 5 saabs at a dsm dyno day....I'm losing interest...
Well... I can't FORCE these saab guys to come down.
to be honest, I'd like a MUCH more diverse field, but no one seems to want to step-up.
as a side-note... just because you're not going to hop-on, doesn't mean you can't come hang out.
I can assure there's not an A-hole amongst the DSM-guys.
and no lame-*** ricers. plan on a good time.
as of now, I've got people booked from 9am-3:30
it'll be a full day of HP and testosterone.
06-11-05, 06:19 PM
Woops, I meant to put a smiley in there. I really don't care whos's there.
But to add a few, we have me, mg_td, paulh, abdukted, my supra buddy, nick /stx221 with his 9-5 and snow man. Not too bad.
9- Bill Kehn
9:30- Dennis Fernald
12:30 Kevin Jewer
1:30 MG_TD (saab)
2:30 PaulH (91 Saab)
3 "snow4 1man"-Dan
4pm- Seth's supra buddy
This is the schedule as of now.
the afternoon is All Saabs
I don't have nick asking me for a time!
nick... get back to me... you can have my slot if you want...or we can wedge you in.
06-11-05, 07:27 PM
id love to go anytime i can be fit in. not sure my car will be setup in time but ill make a show non the less
I haven't made it official yet, but I'm thinking of doing a couple prizes
1 for highest AWD HP
1 for FWD HP
and 1 for "dyno-brackets"
I wil finance the prizes for AWD/FWD (likely small gas-cards)
but I'll probably do a "pot" for the brackets.
pick a projected HP number when you show up.
closest @ the end of the Day wins the "pot"
should be ~$50 if everyone throws in $3
Perhaps I could talk to Dave about waiving the dyno-fee for it...
how do you guys feel about this?
06-11-05, 08:39 PM
How about a straight up price for highest hp Saab???? I'm feeling it this time!!
I love this idea. Even if all the saab guys put up say $5, and the winner takes it all. I'd do that.
Well, the FWD guys Are all saabs except for the single GS-T
and he's only as fast as me.
what I'll do is put the supra in the AWD group just To be a little more fair.
06-11-05, 09:02 PM
I don;t think you have to worry too much about the supra. Its fast, but not that fast. Its an 89 turbo, all stock except a 3" turbo-back exhaust.
06-11-05, 09:59 PM
so its November 19th ill be there probably wont do a dyno. no biggy stilling waiting on parts and so on. but ill be there none the less for a good time. sounds like a blast so count on another saab there.
hah, yeah im sure ill have the highest numbers
07-11-05, 06:16 PM
oh yeah prizes. I can win for torquiest automagic saab.
if i do as well as last time on the dyno i hope for around 240 ftlbs at the wheels... and that was on a supposedly bad DI.
no new mods since then I am doing it mostly for fun and to see the difference, if any, between different dynos. actually this time I am gonna try it with stage 1 ecu and WITHOUT the cone air filter to see if stock aribox gives any better results for the HP. I was not pleased with the HP last time and wondered if the cone filter caused the poor numbers.
Here's another update on the Dyno:
9- Bill Kehn
9:30- Dennis Fernald
12:30 Kevin Jewer
1:30 MG_TD (saab)
2:30 PaulH (91 Saab)
3 "snow4 1man"-Dan
4- Seth's supra buddy
4:30- "abdukted" (saab guy)
I just got back in touch with Dave.
I'm going to make 3 contests to make the Day a little more fun.
the prizes wont' be huge, but they're what I can do.
There will be two "top HP" prizes.
I will be doing $25 shell cards for the top AWD and FWD cars.
This Way, You've got some gas covered for the Week.
there is no pump/race distinction. If the $25 means that much to you, buy some Race gas http://newengdsm.org/forums/images/smiles/icon_wink.gif
The 3rd, and more-fair of the "contests" will be Dyno bracket-racing.
when we show up, we'll be choosing a "target" HP. the person to dyno the closest to their prediction wins. right now, it's 2 T-shirts(winner/Runner-up) and if I can get a couple more people signed-up, Dave's going to throw in a $50 ESP gift-certificate!
(this part was for the NEDSM guys)
If you all want to consider this the meet for November, that's fine.
as of now, I expect a good showing from both The Saab and this Club!
I'll have my video and Digital Cameras with me to take a LOT of pictures/video.
dan, keep in mind the altitude, that oculd account for your low hp
08-11-05, 11:06 AM
well now that i have viggen bumpers I expect a massive gain anyways:lol:
09-11-05, 03:36 PM
g69nt, I think i can make it, but it doesnt look like theres going to be any more spots open for the dyno. How late is this thing running? And it's straight if i bring a friend ...he won't have a car he'll be with me.
Of course, this can/will go until 8pm if it needs to.
I'll put you down after abdukted. are you *sure* you're going to make it?
10-11-05, 01:39 PM
I'll def. be able to come, but the thing is im not sure if i'll be up so early since my dyno won't be until later. Is that ok if i say come at like 1 or 2ish? I understand this guy wants $$$ upfront for x # of cars.
10-11-05, 05:26 PM
i'm gonna make an attempt to go, as of right now it looks good, im gonna move my schedual around so i can go. i'm not gonna be dyno ing though, im probaly not gonna have anything on that i didn't have on when i dyno'd last. haha. abdukted1456well now that i have viggen bumpers I expect a massive gain anyways:lol:
as we all know, adding viggen bumpers at the very LEAST is 300 IHP gain  :cheesy:
10-11-05, 06:17 PM
the rear one is custom painted and the front is custom molded so maybe then with all that extra I might need a custom software. :cheesy:
so where is this in mass again??? if i can get it off of work that saturday i will go up not to dyno but to see who take the highest hp for the saabs...sounds like it will be a all around good day though...
sterling mass, there are specific details in the first post and a link
11-11-05, 02:30 PM
Its in Sterling. I beleive 495 is the closest interstate.
13-11-05, 02:22 PM
I know this is kinda late, but is it possible to be added to the list. I have been asked to come to show the upper engine mount, as well as the fact that I am meeting abdukted to pick up the SE side skirts and lips, and I figure I might as well throw the car on the DYNO at the same time. I dont mind having a late time.
again sorry for the lateness
Of course you can be Added.
It will likely just be later, or I'll give up my slot early-on to let you guys get out earlier.
As an aside, if you're paying to dyno, lunch is included. so you may want to get there early-enough to partake. if not... that's fine by me =0]
also, sterling is off of I-190
it's not far from rt 2 or 495, either.
you can take rt 2 out to leominster and hop on 190-south, or 495 to 117 and then rt 190 south.
just mapquest it =0]
14-11-05, 12:22 PM
I don't mind going later, what times are still available, or is is just play be ear? I don't mind going in the 5 o'clock spot.
So basically I show up, pay my money, and My car gets Dyno'ed at the set time. 60 bucks right? It will be first time putting my car on the Dyno, so Im very excited. I am predicting 210 to 220 fwhp
MBC+A @ 16 PSI
3 inch DP
all the rest are suspension mods so will see what these "cheap" power makers can do for me
14-11-05, 03:56 PM
Yeah this is my first time on the dyno w/ my baby. There is a SMALL chance I'll have my MP intercooler in, depends if it comes this week, but I'll prolly have my new delivery pipe in. We can do 3 runs right....i should have enough time to swap out my stock delivery pipe for my 2.5". I'd like to know the HP difference. Gettin' excited!
im hoping to be able to slap on my MP there before i dyno, also, ill likely have a guest, what about lunch for them?
lunch is for customers... I may swing by and pick up a box of burgers if the need arises. there's a grocery store not far up the street.
14-11-05, 05:54 PM
mg what time you heading to this? we can caravan if it is not blazing fast speeds, I am not running 100% still and don't think I can keep up with the almighty viggen.
heh, i was going to go early, do an ic install, and check out the dsm dynos, ill probably be moving quickly, and it will be EARLY, so let me know.
i would like to roll out of here at 8 at the latest, likely earlier
15-11-05, 02:17 AM
g96nt how do you want us to pay you...bring cash, paypal...whats good for you?
it's probably best that you bring cash.
