Make sure engine is cold prior to start up, listen for a high pitched whine that goes with the engine warming up. Walk away if you hear whine the engine is a victim of sludge. Press AUTO and OFF at the same time on the ACC (air con) panel, you should just get an 0 on the left indicating no faults. A 1 or 2 indicates faults on the system that could be costly to repair. Pull the plastic cover off around the oil filler cap and squeeze the pipe directly above the 1st A in SAAB, if mushy this pipe will need replacing ASAP, its part of the engine breather system. If manual makes sure all gears are easily engaged going up and down the box, if auto make sure all gears changed smoothly with no lurching. Look for any blue smoke from the rear when you blip the throttle, this indicates blown turbo seals.

Thanks for the advice i took the test drive today, checked everything you warned me about, the car checked out ok, the car drove and handled beautifully i checked the history everything spot on, brand new turbo was fitted only twelve months ago, the dealer is an independent saab specialist very helpfull and strait down the line so i am now the owner of a saab 9-5 thanks for the great advice. :D

hi, welcome. i had this added to mine. for £50 thats a bargain. with all the speed cameras it could save you money in the long term. you got to look out for the sneaky cops on motorway bridges, out of sight until too late.great to cruise without using your legs.

They UK Saabs don't come with cruise standard? That seems lame since, being a throttle by wire car, all the cruise basically is is a switch for the computer.

i think the early 9-5s did not come with cruise control, but in the later models "not sure what year" came as standard, my saab 1998 early model but in top condition would be interesting to find out why the early models were not fitted with this ?

I was under the impression SE spec cars and above got cruise as standard, my MY99 has it. But then again they added leather to the spec of the SE a little later...i've got velour seats.

We are moderators because we are stupid enough to buy the most basic of models then spend obscene amounts of money turning them into aero+. The reality being we could have bought top spec aeros for a fraction of the price

yeh she looks great and drives very smooth, will be having the wing mirror replaced in a couple of weeks as there are a few scratches on it, the dealer said he would fit a new one as part of the deal, although it's hardley noticeable, great customer service.

Thats what i thought, the car has been well looked after by it's previous owner with fssh, i was looking to buy a later model but this one was just too good to refuse. This is my first saab and if things go well i will probably get a later model in the future, my first impressions of a saab are very good the comfort and drive are excellent.:D

Welcome to the family. I really like the rims you have on the car.
