Well, this is my first post. After much reading of the wise words posted here, I was hoping I'd be able to report that my PPC upgrade was easy and that my 2.0 lpt is transformed.

Unfortunately, the reality is that the PPC is reporting that it is unconfigured and will go no further. I gave PFS my VIN, so what have I done to deserve this? Of course, it's a national holiday tomorrow so I guess there'll be no-one there to sort things out. Pretty dissapointing.

The other thing that REALLY worries me is that the connection between the PPC cable and the socket in the car is really flaky - even the slightest nudge and the PPC loses power. If this happens during the software transfer, I presume I'm left with a dead car. This surely can't by the way it's supposed to be. Has anyone else found this disaster waiting to happen or is there something wrong with my cable or socket?

Cheers

Dave

Hey, PFS just sell the PPC upgrade, if the software doesn't work initially its not their fault. Unfortunately this does sometimes happen, it may need to be returned to be reprogrammed. I'd personally sit in the passenger seat and plug the PPC into the diagnostic socket and then rest it on the drivers seat whilst it does its thing. That way there's no disturbance of the connecting lead.

Hey to you too, mate. Jeez, I only asked a simple question and reported the facts.

I assume they need the VIN to do the configuration. The unit reports it is not configured. Some pretty poor QA somewhere - I don't care where, but I know who I paid the money to and that's where the buck stops as far as I'm concerned.

Use the website from BSR ( www.bsrab.se (http://www.bsrab.se) ) and ask what to do, in Sweden you don't have hollyday tomorrow.

If it is right you have an inlog code for there website, you can use it.
Bsr is the direct company where the PPC is from they will seport you.

Maybe you can plug in your PPC on your computer and communicate with them
for a new software and load it directly in your PPC.

Thanks EJ, I'll give them a try tomorrow.

Sent BSR a message via their support page and guess what - it was automatically sent on to PFS. So the job number identifies your supplier and it seems BSR doesn't want to talk to the end-user directly.

Great. Just great.

SEman I have the PPC system as well and didnt have any probs with the up load after spending a fair amount of time reading their minimalistic instructions. Assuming you have pulled the correct fuse etc and you have a good battery what exactly happened when you went to Menu etc.Did the unit start loading the update ? The upload does take 25 mins and you do see what percentage has been completed. The connection to the car plugs in quite firmly so unless this was really loose I cant see a problem there. I would give it another go from scratch and if required hold or secure the connector to the steering column. If it fails again I would persevere with BSR as they do send info down line to customers. PFS could at the most only change the unit as they were the retailer but thats not going to help if the problem lies elsewhere. Best of luck DJ

That's interesting DJ as it suggests a problem with my cable or socket. There's no way that I'd dare hold the connector during the transfer - I think this would be a sure-fire way to loose power as it really takes almost no movement to do this. Applying a slight lateral force to the connector causes loss of power even if the connector is being firmly held into the socket.

The unit goes through a very short (2-3s) boot sequence when connected and then immediately displays a message saying the unit is unconfigured. Neither of the buttons has any effect at this point.

Sounds like a hardware problem if the cable is faulty and/or the unit not even getting to the update stage. In which case I would send it straight back to PFS and ask for a replacement. They are usually very good, which they should be when you spend 500 quid with them. Stick it in the post!!!

Just to end the story, PFS immediately offered a replacement or no-hassle refund. Great service, for sure.

Hi SEman,

mine has the same problem and after sending the ppc back to BSR 2 time then the local dealer found that it is the cable that caused the problem. Swap the cable it is done. Think the ppc cable is not so well done.

But the upgrade works when it is done..

cheers,

sam

They are top guys, and its when you have problems that this really shows, I bet problems are few and far between, sadly you have the rare experience of having a difficulty ;)

Are you getting another? :p

TAre you getting another? :p

Nope - PFS thought my socket might be the cause of the very dicey electrical connection, so I'm going to look at a replacement ECU instead.
