I can get hold of the remus 7865970506 exhaust back box for a good price.
It has twin pipes and looks very nice!
They are normally about £280 - but I can buy discounted at a much lower price
Has anyone already got this part? If so - what's it like? Is it easy to fit? Is it noisy - I don't want something too noisy! Will it effect mpg/performance?
http://www.remus.at/images/saab/7865970506.gif
If anyone else is interested - let me know - I may be able to get more?
Cheers
My car actually had that exhaust fitted by the previous owner when I bought it.
Don't know when the part was fitted, but it started to blow about year after buying the car.
Additionally, due to the shape of the exhaust pipe outlets, the exhaust never fitted snugly against the rear bumper cut out.
The exhaust sounded good though and was quiet when cruising.

Strange I measured the twin pipes and got a width of 19mm and a height of 9mm.
That seemed to be about right for the hole in the rear body bit.
Were the pipes too big for the hole do you think - or was it more an alignment issue??
Cheers
The pipes were too big for the hole.
They were alright, just wobbled about a bit - Alfa Romeo exhaust stylee :D

Mmmmm - maybe I won't buy one after-all.
BTW - I put an italian twin pipe exhaust on my alfa 164 - it fitted perfectly :p
What did you replace it with on your Aero?

It will be easy to fit. Its the same Remus exhaust system as all the others, just with a different tip. I think it would look great. Go for it.

I'm really tempted - I'm sure it would look and sound great - but just don't want something that's going to bang around on the body work. And I definately dont want to start cutting and patching around the exhaust - I hate to see that.
The book says its for the 2.3l 125kW (is that 170bhp?) They don't seem to have it down for the aero?
Is that gonna be ok on my Aero?

Does this mean that this back box is DEFINATELY NOT for the aero?

Not sure how much discount you are getting on the rear silencer but there are decent cat back systems for around £300 ;)

Thanks Chris.
I can get the box for £100
I like the look - and it seems good quality?
Just very concerned that it's suitable for the Aero rather than just the 2.3 lpt
What do you think?
Thanks
Dan
Why don't you ask the company you are getting it from?

I can't seem to find a telephone number for Remus themselves.
Anyone - know who I should call?

The remus website only list for two 9-5's the standard 2.0 and the standard 2.3 on the 9-3 they list a viggen back box so they must be differences, sounds to me like its not right for the aero
http://www.remus.at/product.php?option=1&selPrdID=1&ln=2&selectBrtID=48&selectCatID=529&selectDtlID=2266
I'd still try to get in contact with them somehow. Can't hurt. With that kind of bargain, you should try everything you can. ;)
What did you replace it with on your Aero?
Exhaust was replaced by the Maptun exhaust system that was included when the Stage 3 conversion was done.
I put an italian twin pipe exhaust on my alfa 164 - it fitted perfectly :p
I swapped the standard exhaust out for a Supersprint exhaust on my Alfa 146 - that also fitted perfectly - a lot better than the standard one and didn't wobble around :D

Hey Robin Hood, i was bying one of those remuses somemonths ago at a good price with the rectangle output but the seller suddenly told me it was no longer available - Big downer at the time.
Bottom line is if you can get them at that price then i shall also take one of you :)
In my opinion, they look the best on the 9-5 tail area. I just actually followed a 9-5 today with foreign plates and it had that twin outlet which i reckon was a remus, same size of twin holes, just the perfect size for me ;)
I did some research on remus a few months ago, and the rectangle part was for the pre 02 aero but was discontinued so not shown on remus site any more.
Remus also have i think discontinued the rectangle back box, oval back box and mid section that they were doing exclusively for the states market.
I tried very hard to pick up one of those boxes back then at the right price but withy no joy.
I think elkparts were doing them listed for aero but at around 300 green ones (way too pricey )
Would like to be sure the twin output one is just the same body as rectangle one ?
PM me if you can get me one as i will snap it from your hand;)
Correction here , I meant to say elkparts were doing one under the saab sport silencer at a high price http://www.elkparts.co.uk/product_info.php/cPath/75_437_628/products_id/1951
But this is the rectangle outlet which i also think looks superb but not at that price
You will see that it is made in austria by remus for saab.

The picture of that twin pipe looks the same body as the picture of the rectangle output which does do the aero so i reckon it will be fine.
Let me know what you think robinhood , i pmd you

OK, so now you got me thinking I should go for it.
The Remus book definately says its for 2.3l - I know my Aero has 2.3l - but the hp is higher.
What would make this back box unsuitable for my Aero which has higher hp?
Me confused!

Me confused!
Back pressure I guess.
Apparently there is a real science to exhaust maunfacture, so if they have designed and tested it and it worked on more models (like the Aero) surely they would say so.
On the other hand, if you go and get a custom stainless system built, who knows how that might affect things when it clearly hasnt been designed specifically for the car (other than to fit).
On the other hand (yes there are three now) its just a back box, when I changed the entire cat back system I noticed no difference in performance, untill I changed the downpipe and cat.
So if you need one, its worth it I guess

Thanks Chris.
I'll think about it.
...............and Yes it fits an Aero aswell.;)
The Remus exhaust that I had on my Aero looked a lot bigger than that.
The one on your car looks a lot smaller by comparison - can't be the same exhaust.
Thedriver

Robin hood, the rectangle one which did the aero is no longer listed on remus site because it only did pre 02 aeros and this was not because of exhaust flow performance, but because of rear body differences in the pre 02 post 02 aeros
If you look at the picture of the rectangle remus unit on the ---parts website, you will see that the tailbox is exactly the same apart from the rear pipe outlets
I am so confident that it will be fine, that i will place an order with you now if you can get me one, i will be your guinea pig if you like ;)

Do you have the same rear spoiler as the Aero?

14-08-05, 07:22 PM
Robinhood, my english is pretty good but what do you mean with ALTER?
The roofspoiler is the original (not original from Ebay 185 euro, painted, direct from the USA) SAAB spoiler you can find in the acc.list at +/- 400 euro.
The Remus has a great sound, you don't hear it in the car and at cruise speeds
BUT at the pedel to the metal just a great dark sound..............;)
With the open filter and the forge dumpvalve everyone you come along
looks like, what a car, NO IT'S A SAAB????!!!!!!:o
Oke, mine is not much standard anymore, but even with a stock 2.0 or 2.3,
this three mods, you will have a lot of FUN!!
Gr EJ
Definitions of alter on the Web:
change: cause to change; make different; cause a transformation; "The advent of the automobile may have altered the growth pattern of the city"; "The discussion has changed my thinking about the issue"
change: make or become different in some particular way, without permanently losing one's or its former characteristics or essence; "her mood changes in accordance with the weather"; "The supermarket's selection of vegetables varies according to the season"
make an alteration to; "This dress needs to be altered"

Thanks alot - I realy appreciate your comments.
What I was trying to say:
The two 90mm pipes are quite big.
I was worried that they were too big to fit in the gap in the bumper at the bottom.
The oval pipes fit perfectly because they match the exit hole in the bumper - is it the same for this remus exhaust?
Cheers
Thedriver
15-08-05, 09:40 AM
I thought you had made an error when you said 90mm for each pipe ?
I eyeballed a "foreign plate" 9-5 last week with twin pipes, but the pipes were about 65mm diameter each and fitted quite snuggly up in the cut-out ! Im sure they were 65mm because that is a diameter i am very familiar with on other products.
If i look at my standard aero single oval tailpipe, it is about 100mm diameter and it sort of sits lower in the cutout - its not up inside the cutout.
If i then use a tape measure, and hold it across the centre horizontal line of the oval pipe to simulate what 2 of 90mm pipes would be like, it looks like they would just fit at the same level as the original oval pipe.
Robin Hood, if you can get the diameter of the complete twin pipes together , they are probably something like 190mm ? then i will double chek this. It will also depend on how the backbox sits and what angle the twin pipes come out of that box.
Once again, i would suggest that this unit will fit the aero but i appreciate your extra investigations
RobinHood
15-08-05, 09:48 AM
I measured the tail pipes together. The overall width was 190mm and the height 90mm.
It looks really tight - but I think it may sit quite low?
What do you think?
I'm trying to find out whether the rear valence on the Aero is different to standard models! Especially when it comes the exhaust cut-out!
Cheers
RobinHood
15-08-05, 09:52 AM
Oh, the other thing is the diameter of the pipe that the box joins to.
I think the existing pipe has to be cut.
And to fit the remus box - it needs to be 60-62mm in diameter.
Cheers
Thedriver
15-08-05, 09:54 AM
I would make an educated guess that the cut-outs are exactly the same.
If you look at Erics second picture, it looks like his cut-out is exactly like my aero, and the way the twin pipes sit on his car is as they would sit on the aero, their horizontal centres are below the cut-out, but then again so is the horizontal centre of the standard oval aero tailpipe.
I would say that Erics picture is exactly how it will look coming out of the aero.
Thedriver
15-08-05, 09:56 AM
The entry side to the remux backbox will match the standard aero exhaust size !
And it looks like there is a nice "clamp" (no welding) on that picture you posted of it ;)
RobinHood
15-08-05, 10:15 AM
I agree - and yes there is a very nice quality clamp - so no welding!
Did you measure the pipe - or do you know that it's 60m diameter?
Only problem is:
-You receive the box - and can;t wait to fit it!
-You align the box up - and it looks like it's going to fit!
-You mark off where you need to cut your existing mid-section pipe!
-You get a hack-saw or grinder and cut your existing pipe!
-You fit your shiny new remus - and - oh dear it doesn't fit!
-You then have to selotape your original one back on
Cheers!
