:o This cant be true, in that manual first 50 pages are for how to use seatbelts. I should not say this in puplic but are americans stupid or what?

It's not that americans are stupid, it's just that they'll sue a giant company like GM for an absurd amount of money because they did not know how to use the seatbelt properly. Go figure.

Oh and in answer to your question, yes Americans are stupid. Or at least 53% of them are..

I hear that the stupidity figure is down to 47%. I'm hoping for something closer to 15% in the next few years. :D

Nah! That's what stupid people must be saying. To hit the 15% mark, the Patriot act will need a provision for mandatory lobotomies.

Hey, why quibble when you can have both? Lets add in arrogant and small-minded while we're at it...:)

Page 1-9 is just fantastic. A digrammed explanation of what happens when "the simplest vehicle", a seat on wheels, is forced to stop suddenly and the person sitting on the seat isn't wearing a belt.

Guess what happens? :suprised;
They don't stop when the seat does!!!! :o

My goodness I'd never have guessed, especially without the pictures.

Now I have one question more. What kind of driving school (or what it is called) is in US? if they are not teaching how to use safety equipments. Or do they win their driving license from lottery :cheesy:

I have only one thing to say:

Pictures and words work together in the owner manual to explain things.

:o

What age group are they aiming at here? :D

Not to bash on the 9-7x, I've actually only heard mostly good, but it is based off a GM platform and the manual is no exception.

The book for my mother's 92 Oldsmobile has the same section on safety, right down to the pictures.

Another thing I noticed is that they incorrectly refer to the section of the instrument cluster that displays information as the "Driver's Information Center." as opposed to "Saab Informational Display"

I say all this in jest though, owner's guides are not cheap to produce, so it wouldn't have made a lot of sense to have the Saab people write a whole new book when the GM people already had one that was 90% written.

yeah, it seems like they really did a nice job on the 9-7x. i finally got to read a review in car and driver and they REALLY liked it, as a saab, so that's not so bad i guess... too bad it doesn't get the new 400 horse motor... yum.

i thought it was common knowledge that americans lack a bit of intelligence but make up for it in technology, brawn and how many bombs they have

i wont discuss any more political stuff about americans etc

lets just say the 50 pages for having a seatbelt on properly was a good idea from Saab when selling the 9-7 in the USA.

The fact is that the United States has way to many sue happy people and way too many lawyers willing to sue over any and everything.

The first 50 pages is simply a liability waiver which almost every single car manufacturer puts in manuals these days. It was the same way with my 2000 Trans Am, and my Ford Explorer.

its the same in my manual for my mazda, from 1989.

its a liability thing here, nothing more.

Anyone actually OPEN the link??

Page 1-5 is how to operate the seat and lumbar controls.
Page 6-24 about adult seat belts.
(18 pages...)
Page 24-42 is about strapping children in properly (certainly NOT a bad thing).
Page 45-58 about airbags.
Page 59-60 about checking the system.

Shall we see if we can get this mountain down to a mole hill again?!? :cheesy:

My dad was an exec at GM was almost 30 years and those first 60 pages have been the same for as long as I can remember. We used to get a new company car to drive down to Florida from Michigan every december and I would always read the manuals of the new rides. Same stuff since 1984 (at least).

IMO, a moderator must possess smarts, sanity:p (leaves me out), and sensitivities..

This "overdoing" bit not only affects the automotive manuals, but every product piece of literature..

I am waiting for the day when every single banana has a warning label affixed - "dispose of the peel properly; this peel can cause persons to trip and fall"..

This problem is caused by the safety nazis and their supporters - their hysteria has drowned out the voice of rationale and reason..

I look to the day when all of this insanity is over, when a man can operate a vehicle or just ride a bicycle without a helmet, No air bags, NO belts, No alarms, No goggles, NO pads, No locks.. in a world where all men can live in peace and natural security...

I fear that the day is becoming further and further away, things will become worse..
Remember the 1974 days of the interlock ??

Postcount certainly has nothing to do with it. Or I'd own the place by now!
