Well, here it is. Been looking forward to this since last summer when the old standby, my Turbonetics T3-60 (dating from about '99) started passing oil through the seals. What better an excuse than that to get a brand new GT30?

This one was purchased from kineticmotorsport.com - as close to local for a new turbo as I will get - they are in the Vancouver, BC area. It's a GT30 based unit, with a '-10' compressor housing and a .63 A/R turbine housing. You can see from the pix that the turbine housing is a 5-bolt T3 type - which I require to mate up to my existing external wastegate setup. Kinetic casts their own turbine housings, I had no idea that shops do this on their own - this accounts for why there are so many different turbos out there. Also looks like they mated it to a Mitsubishi compressor housing.

Anyway, while I went up from a .48 A/R to the .63, the GT30's dual ball bearings should help with spool. If not, I can go back to a .48 housing for about C$200 and have super fast spool up.

Next step is to fabricate up all new oil lines, I have most of the fittings already. Then also have to acquire some new metric to -6 adaptor fittings for my existing stainless braided water lines (did that last time).

Also have another picture of my downpipe, newly ceramic coated, inside and out. I had this built last year, but only just had it coated. It discharges to atmosphere through a small engine muffler, but it's still quite loud. Last year alone I lost two of these mufflers even though they SHOULD have been held in place by their 3/4" NPT threads. I'm taking it safe this time - I had my muffler shop tack it in place. They also welded on an extra bit of pipe, which protrudes through a hole in my S&R skidplate.

I actually have the whole engine out and separated from the tranny right now. Going to reseal it, and also pop in a new oil pump - trying to get to the bottom of some oil leakage issues. Should be fun fun fun when it's all back together! Now I just need the bloody snow to all melt! ;)

Vince!
I'm happy for you man, I'd stumbled across your site a few times before I ever found this forum and after seeing your video I know you've had this as a goal for a while. You have an awesome ride and it's about to get better. I can't wait until I get my spg set for a new turbo, there's a long to-do list before I get there.
Interesting stuff about the turbine housings. Clears some stuff up for me.

Good luck and be safe.

No doubt you're in for a treat Vince :o

More lag is probable but more in a way that the boost will come in much smoother, rather than moving the No Boost/WHAM Boost threshold up the rev range. But the gains you'll have (less heated more efficient flow, NO taper to redline) will outweigh that. I would keep the .64 housing, less exhaust restriction for better safety margin, or to take more advantage of timing.

Just adding the GT2871R (.86 turbine housing) to my car with crude supporting mods, 18psi with stock IC, I have no knock and 220+ whp. I can only imagine what i'd be like if I had SDS or the like to dial everything in.

300whp isn't far off for Vince T :D

Man that turbo s*cks............................a lot of air.

Err, sorry, couldn't resist that very cheesy, not very funny remark but not being a native speaker of the English language you sometimes think you are very clever if such a pun pops-up in your mind. Again, sorry......sort of.
