The official US prices:
9.7X Linear (I-6 Engine) $38990
9.7X Arc (V8) $40990
Pretty good value, I think.

This puts the 9-7x Arc at 10 grand less than a standard equiped V8 SRX. This I believe is a great price point for a vehicle w/ 6500 pound towing capacity. After option adds and discount deducts, this is likely to be near $38,500 out the door. What a bargain.

damn. i thought it would be about 2k cheaper. it's not like it comes standard with everything.
Price isn't too competitive when you compare it to vehicles like the MDX and Touareg
Well the V6 compares favorably to the two. The V8 is very competitive, given that the MDX doesn't offer one and the V8 Tourag is significantly more. I guess it comes down to how loaded they come and how much more options are. Brewman, where did you get this info? ANy pricing on options?
They actually sound like they will be pretty well equiped for those prices. Here is most of the press release from Saab:
DETROIT, Mich. -- The all-new Saab 9-7X goes on sale in the United States this spring with very attractive pricing. Saab's first-ever SUV will come in two models: the Linear, priced at $38,990.00 and the Arc, priced at $40,990.00. Both MSRP's include a $720.00 destination charge.
The 9-7X SUV is just one part of the most aggressive product development offensive in Saab's 57-year history. It joins the 9-3 Sport Sedan and Convertible, the 9-5 Sedan and SportWagon and the all-wheel drive 9-2X, as well as the upcoming all-new Saab 9-3 SportCombi and the 250-hp 2.8V6 Turbo, which will become available in all 9-3 Aero models later this year.
The 9-7X Linear features standard all-wheel drive, leather-appointed heated front seats, 18-inch alloy wheels, side-curtain airbags, integrated roof rails, OnStar, XM Satellite Radio, 6-CD Bose audio system and a choice between a moonroof or a rear-DVD entertainment system. It is powered by an in-line 6-cylinder engine that makes 275 hp and 275 lb.-ft. of torque. The 9-7X Arc adds xenon headlamps, adjustable pedals, headlamp washers and a 300-hp/330 lb.-ft. V8.
Saab owners will feel right at home in the 9-7X, which has the familiar ****pit-inspired instrument panel, signature sliding-plate vents, in-dash cupholder and center console-mounted ignition. The Saab 9-7X can be ordered in Obsidian Black, Titanium Silver and Ocean Blue.

OK, that is a decent deal, again depending on discounts/lease money. Of course, it all depends on how the thing drives and what they have done about safety issues. For comaprison a comparably equipped V6 Tourag is 40,235, whicl a v8 is a whopping $47,015.
I thought the 9-7X was only going to be offered with the V8?
Heh official prices, put all those countless discounts on it and figures change quite a bit.

Just noticed this official commitment to the Combi and bigger engine. Now add awd to that and we ahve a real winner!!

with the standard features the price seems okay.
what about navigation, tire pressure monitors? glad to see curtain airbags
BTW Touaregs go for a couple hundred over invoice.
BTW Touaregs go for a couple hundred over invoice.
And have really good lease rates. But they also are really heavy, get crappy gas mileage (esp. for V8), and don't have much cargo room. Oh, and you will spend a _lot_ of time at the VW dealer getting stupid little things fixed.

Saab Announces 9-7X SUV Pricing
DETROIT, Mich. -- The all-new Saab 9-7X goes on sale in the United States this spring with very attractive pricing. Saab's first-ever SUV will come in two models: the Linear, priced at $38,990.00 and the Arc, priced at $40,990.00. Both MSRP's include a $720.00 destination charge.

Saab is making the 9-7X SUV even more attractive with a limited special offer. By registering before March 31, 2005, customers who purchase or lease a 2005 9-7X will get three years of free OnStar "Safe & Sound" and XM Satellite Radio service, a $700.00 value. In addition, current Saab drivers whose leases expire in February, March or April will qualify for a lease extension of up to six months to enable them to take delivery of a new 2005 9-7X.
Saab will target potential customers with a direct mail campaign by the end of February 2005. This mailing will direct prospects to the Saab 9-7X website, www.saab97Xsuv.com (http://www.saab97Xsuv.com). Once customers have registered at this website, they will automatically receive the additional free services once they take delivery of their 2005 9-7X. Interested customers can go directly to the website even if they did not receive the mailing from Saab.
"The 9-7X joins the Saab lineup at the right time because the demand for premium midsize SUV's is strong," said Debra Kelly-Ennis, President and COO of Saab USA. "About forty percent of current Saab owners already have an SUV of another make in their garage, while nearly 30 percent of Saab owners have left the brand for an SUV in the past. With the 9-7X, Saab will be able to take advantage of the continued growth in this segment."
On top of that, the Saab 9-7X SUV represents outstanding value for money, especially when compared with the Volvo XC90. Not only has the 9-7X more headroom, legroom, towing capability and engine torque, it is also priced at over $8,000.00 less than a comparably equipped XC90 V8.
Saab Automobile AB and Saab Cars USA, Inc. are subsidiary companies of General Motors Corp. Saab Cars USA is the importer of Saab 9-2X, 9-3 and 9-5 automobiles for Saab Automobile AB, Sweden. For more information, please visit www.saabusa.com (http://www.saabusa.com)."

amen. if you want, I can tell you about how many times my girlfriends BRAND NEW 2003 VW passat wagon had to go back in the first 3 months or so to fix crap that kept braking. now things are falling off the car, and she just does not care anymore. she keeps saying she wishes she got the '02 9-3 instead...

the saab won't be any better. and i'm pretty sure the Touareg is a better performer than the 9-7X could dream of

I'm sure Saab knows they're not exactly going to be able to sell their SUV for what Volvo, VW, and others sell it for since the 9-7x is a truck-based platform and it lacks some other features the class does have. But for the price they set it's a steal. I would consider this over a Buick Rainier any day, even if it's a few grand more.

The advantage of 9-7X's body-on-ladder frame construction is its towing capacity, rated at around 6500 lbs for the V8 Arc, and approx. 6300 lbs for the I-6 Linear (TrailBlazer spec).
The MDX is good for up to 4500 lbs with the optional boat towing package. It's the only SUV in this group that doesn't offer a V8.
The king kong of this group is the Toureg at 7716 lbs for all models from base with 220hp 3.2L V6 to the mighty V10 TDi (553 lb-ft @ 2,000 !!).
The XC90 V8 will be good to only 5000 lbs, the non-V8 variants can tow up to 1,650 lbs for a trailer without brakes, and 3,970 lbs for a trailer with its own brakes on the FWD version and 4,960 pounds for the AWD version.
The dog of the group is the Infiniti FX35 and FX45, both good to tow only 3500 lbs.

It seems odd that the SUV with one of the weakest engines in its class can tow the most. No one in their right mind would tow 7000+ lbs. in their V6 Touareg.

Coming from someone who worked for VW/Audi, the Saab will have much fewer problems. VW has more problems per vehicle then almost any other brand. Build quality is terrible, constantly in the shop. A long standing joke inside of VW is the ghost of german engineers live in VW's because of all the little annoying problems vdubs have.

Nah, the Touareg is a dog. The SRX V6 model outperforms the Touareg _V8_. The 9-7x Linear should do the same. Too much bloat to haul around.

I found that statistic surprising too. I imagine those who tow +4000 lbs drive Suburbans, Yukons, Denalis, Expeditions and definitely pickups. I've never seen luxury SUVs tow anything close to a large boat or 5th wheel camper.

We see it around here a fair amount. This is the kind of place where people actually use their beasts, rich or poor. Going up the interstate on a Friday night it is like an RV caravan. You might see a Cayenne Turbo towing some big a** boat or an old beat-up old F150 towing a campler. OTOH, I know a guy who uses his V70R to tow his karts to the race track every weekend.
My thought on the above is that towing capacity doesn't have that much to do with engine power, it is more to do with basic body strength, issues like cooling, etc.. Whatver else we can say about the Touareg it is a very strongly built vehicle as is the 9-7x nee TrailBlazer. That Touareg might be going only 40 miles an hour but it will make it -- its only when you try to roll down the window that you will have problems, lol.

the V6 Touareg is rated at 240hp. housewives don't need any more power than that.
first run of Touaregs had their little bugs but they've been squeaky clean for the past 6-8months.
let's not forget our own 9-3SS and it's problems that can't seem to go away and we're on 3 years.
