Hi,
Can Anyone offer any reasons why the "Check Engine Light" has come on, the car is a 9-5 2300 auto. R Reg.
Are there any faults that cause the light to come on easy to remedy or is it a trip to the main agent.
There are no nasty noises or smoke or loss of performance to suggest a major problem.
I bought the car in Jan 2002 and the light came on during the test drive - it cost the garage £600 to replace the throttle housing.!!!
Can anyone recommend an independent (and hopefully cheap) Saab garage around the Cheshire/Manchester area.
Thanks
Norm (apart from "Check mEngine Lights" well impressed with Saab.)

Difficult to say what your problem is I'm afraid, only sure way is to plug it in!
But you can erase temporary faults by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes... obviously this will only last if the fault doesn't re-occur!
As for specialists have a look thorugh the listings, and ask around on the boards, you'll soon get a feel for a good un!

Thanks.
I disconnected the battery and the light went out and stayed out.

By diconnecting the battery, does the radio still work ?
Isn't there some kind of security code that has to be reprogrammed ?

There is no security code on the radio, therefore no problem other than resetting the presets, the clock and the date etc.
I believe I read in some Saab data that the security of the radio was in its design and size i.e The shape of it would make it a waste of time for someone to pinch it because it would not fit another car.
Sounds to me if the swedes had some snow on their brains when they said that.

The head unit and Changer are 'married' to the car using Tech2, so you can't even swap heasd units or changers between 9-5's without first having them 'divorced' from the original car, then married to the other car!
I'm getting brake light failure message, but the brake lights seem ok, if I diconnect the car battery and reconnect it again, will this clear the message ?

Nope!
But are you sure all brake lights are working?
There are 2 pairs of bulbs each side IIRC.... and the high level one will also trigger the message!
Yep,
I'm sure all lights are working, I checked each bulb.

check all brake globes for corosion and good fit, also make sure all globes are the same watage?as this can result in a light failure message
