I own a 170hp 2000 Saab 95. Lately the ABS, TCS, and Brake warning lights have been turning on and my Speedometer turned off at the same time. This problem in intermitent while driving. I have checked the brake fluid level and it is fine.

Has anyone experienced this problem? Does anyone know of a solution?

HI, welcome to Saab Central

With all that activity it sounds like an electrial gremlin, I'd suggest getting a dealer to put the Tech 2 equipment on it for diagnosis to try and pin it down, especially if its brake warning related ;)

Dear Chris,

Thank you for your kind response. I have an appointment with the shop tomorrow morning to review this problem.
The Saab 95 is not a popular car in South Florida. As a result, repairs are very costly and multiple estimates are not possible. Last year alone I spent over $2000 on repairs.

I love the car when it is working... but I am afraid of another Saab story to start 2005.

Hello,
it might be linked to ABS sensor. Look for ABS on this forum to find more info.
Hope that helps,
Radek

Radek I thing you might be right, the rear ABS sensors are built into the rear hub assembly, it's a hub/bearing/sensor all in one unit.

Have a read of this.. http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/bb/9-5/index.html?bID=90319

I know you said these cars are rare but a second hand unit might be far cheaper. ;)

Also try checking fuse 25/26 (the speedo and abs light was on fuse 25/26)

Dear Chris and Radek,

Thank you very much for your detailed responses. I viewed the link and it does appear that my car is suffering from the same symptoms. My fear is that I will have a $2500 repair. The shop has removed all the wheels and will clean the wheel wells in an attempt to resolve this issue. I will update you on the status of the repair once it is complete.

Kindest regards,

Richard

Guys, you were right on both counts. It is the ABS Sensor and I was quoted $2499 for the part plus labor!

The recommendation from the shop was to trade in the car. Unfortunately, it is worthless ($2500 for trade-in).

Is it possible to drive the car with a faulty ABS Sensor without the risk of brake failure?

I will be in Europe (the Netherlands) during the week of January 15th. Would it be better to purchase the part there?

Kindest regards,

Richard

If I were you I'd be emailling around for the best price on the part, even if its used and mail ordered.

Might well be worth walking into a Saab dealer in Europe with the part number and asking, not sure the $ exchange rate is in your favor though at the mo.

Good luck!;)

Did you get a part number????????

I did not get the part number. The shop said that a European Sensor Module may not work on a US car (I don't see why there should be a difference.)

Hello,
you can also get a used part. Try http://www.eliteforeignauto.com/ they seem to have good prices and Saabs on hand. If you can find it there try car-part.com .
Also do not worry about part#. Even if you would have had it it is different in US and in Europe. You would have had Sweddish longer part number ...
Good Luck,
Radek

I have a 2000 95 Saab wagon, approx 106K. I recently spent $750.00 on a complete brake job, about three days later the same thing with the lights )ABS, TCS, hazard brakes etc. happened to me. Just as you say it is intermittent and the speedometer quits as well. I was told that I need a transmission module. I am afraid to go ahead, as, I love the car but all of a sudden it's costing me a fortune. Serpentine belt not long ago as well as the window switch died. Have you had any luck fixing yours? Thanks, Ellen

I have been having trouble with the hazard lights, TCS, brakes etc. tunring on intermittently. The speedometer stops as well. Does anyone know if this could be related to the ABS sensor? I just had a complete brake job.

Thanks Ellen

ABS sensor does provide wheel speed info, so a dirty sensor can cause this problem. So can a faulty ABS unit though, and they cost stoopid money. :(

Do you have any idea what will happen if this intermittent problem is not taken care of? I hope the car will not just die on me somewhere. Thanks for your repsonse.
