Hello! I have been reading this forum for quite sometime now, and figured it was time i registered. I would like to thank those of you who have posted information about the Direct Ignition Cassette - because of this information I was able to repair my car for $210 USD!

Moving on..I am hoping that some of your expertise can assist with a pet peeve of mine, the interior lights in my 1999 9 5 SE V6..keep going out. What do I mean? Well certain bulbs keep burning out I assume, for example the bulb that illumantes the shifting location on the transmission no longer is lit, furthermore, the front light switches no longer are lit, and finally the passenger ACC up/down temp control no longer is lit. Anyways, I know this is a minor issue, but it annoys me to no end -I am a perfectionist when it comes to my Saab!

Thanks for your responses!

Hi welcome to Saab Central!

Do you mean you have replaced these bulbs before and they have burnt out again?

Nope, I never replaced them before - just was wondering if anyone knew how, or if there was information on doing such somewhere around here.

For the transmission lights:

"Selector lever lighting
To remove

1. Remove the edging around the indication display.
2. Remove the indication display by carefully pressing in the catches. (push gently inwards towards the selector)
3. Lift up the indication display.
4. Lift up the green colour band and remove the grey plastic strip.
5. Remove the lamp using pliers.

Fitting
1. Fit a new lamp.
2. Fit the grey plastic strip under the green band.
3. Fit the indication display.
4. Fit the edging around the indication display. "

Hope that helps, Chris

The Saab interior bulbs do seem to blow more frequently than other bulbs I have seen. It could be related to that fact that with the DRLs set to 'on' there's no way to turn the dash lights off.

We've had 2 seat heater switches replaced, and now the halo light around the cigarette lighter has gone!

Oh well, I'd rather it be bulbs than other things.

You can always pull fuse 35 to defeat the DRL's, perfectly legal in the UK, not sure about our American cousins though, do you need to have DRL's or is it a state thang?

It is in CANADA that it's illegal to pull the fuse.

I pulled it but it got put back in (My dad? The dealer?). Pulled it again but alas, my dad (The primary driver) really really likes driving with his headlights on. I finally convinced him he doesn't need the Fogs on all the time though
