here is a short translate

500 employees have been given notice at the Saab automobile plant in the small central Swedish town of Trollhätten.

The American giant General Motors which owns the plant has announced plans to slice 12,000 jobs at its European plants – but details of where the ax will fall won’t be made public next year.

An article in a Finnish business newspaper (highlights):

Germany factory employees has promised to make longer days + freeze their salaries to save their jobs (est. 10.000).

Car (Saab or Opel) made in Sweden has been estimated to be around 800 € cheaper to manufacture as the salary costs are around 30% less than in Germany GM factory. This makes in total of 1.45 billions of saving in 15 years. Even if the Germans will keep their promises (more work, no salary incr.) the cars are still around 400 € cheaper to produce in Sweden.

The factory in Germany is one of the most modern (car)factory in the whole Europe. They have spent around 750 million of euros for the modernization in the last few years.
