Before with Chrome grille kit from ebay!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v159/cbullock/Bodywork/Saab005.jpg

After with stainless mesh!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v159/cbullock/Bodywork/saab-bling008.jpg

Anyone know how to mesh the three lower grilles (by the fogs and in the centre), I cant see how to bond the mesh on these? :(

Definitely the new grill but without the Turbo logo. Nice Job.

Do you have pictures of how you replaced and attached the new grill? Is the grill available in black?

Chris 9-5
20th August 2004, 01:59 PM
Thanks Guys :cheesy:

I must admit I like it better without the turbo badge but that cost more than the grille and the mesh! So it had to go on!

The mesh was 5 off ebay the grille was 9 from ebay (Germany) too!

I didn't bother with pics cos its so easy, the black fins unclip (with persuasion) from the chrome part. The mesh needs to be cut to shape, not too tricky really and then sandwich the two back together, hey presto, took about 30 minutes 8)

Of course you could buy a ready meshed grille for about 115, but that spoils the fun! :D

I'm gonna do the lower grilles I have a plan for attaching the mesh and will hopefully post some pics tomorrow! 8)

Lower grilles done!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v159/cbullock/Bodywork/saab-bling010.jpg

When I get a chance I shall slightly shorten the two small ones to create a thin black line between the fog light and the mesh, and re attach them with fixings from behind for a more stealth look, but it means dropping the uundertray and I'm not the most patient of blokes :cheesy:

Hey man I like the way you did the lower grills. I did the same thing to the upper grill 0n my car. How did you attach the lower ones?

Chris 9-5
22nd August 2004, 08:58 AM
Hiya, I like it too, and have now trimmed and remounted the two smaller ones. :D

If you drop the sump guard you can squeeze a hand(especially one from a volunteering teenager) in there and can attach the mesh with a couple of small cable ties, pulled through and tightened behind the existing black grille, then just touch in the tiny bit of cable tie that shows with silver and it dissapears!

I have been warned that the mesh can reduce airflow to the radiator and intercooler so that could be an issue in warmer climates or if driving hard, but if I sense a problem I can snip the cable ties and they are off, back to standard 8)

I think it gives the front a much cleaner & crisper look 8)

Hej !

WHAT !!!!! ?????

Gentlemen, you make me upset !
The nice looking grilles are NEGATIVE performance modifications. The air doesn't like what you have done, result, less (cooling)air to I/C and radiator.
Air that you need so desperatly....

Performance or styling ?
It's your choice !
I know what I prefer.

Chris 9-5
23rd August 2004, 04:10 PM
Dr Boost I take your point but as I spend almost all my time in gridlocked traffic I'll go for the looks rather than the performance 8)

If I ever do a track day I'll simply remove them

turbo5spd,
Yes, I was actually referring to you. I would really like to see the detalils of your mesh grill.
Thanks :D

Simon,
I would like to add my guess before Yuz tells the truth. Those are new laser guns to add some more protection on the Saab :cheesy: . Car theft is very very high in Moscow as I know this from my brother in law. Privet Yuz
And now let me guess that those fogs are Xenon fogs! That is what I will do if one they I apply a 2004 Aero facelift to my 2001 9-5 Aero. Any idea about costs? The fogs will have to be small rounded in stead of big more rectangular ones as current. So I will see if one of Xenons will fit that space. Of course I will have to change the headlights as well. But there are guys who made Hirsch type fronts and kept. See the link below for other design options I have collected so far:

not realy lazer but flash light :) Kinda police using on their cars.

If you mention big paper on thise car - this's special permission to avoid everything. This particular SAAB is using for special operations of FSB.

hey guys whats up? i wanted to ask turkish aerolines if you know if the hirsch body kit can be fitted on any saab 9-5??
i have a 2000 V6 and would like to add xenons in the headlights and fogs plus upgrade to that body kit!! it would look amazing!
thanks!

and for Yuz...do you have any more pics of that FSB saab???? hope u do! write back!

I am both checking Hirsch and 2004 Aero options. Latter is actually officialy available from Saab as aftermarket now. I am awaiting for a reply from Hirsch if it fits to 2001 and previous. I need to check with the Saab dealer for the original 2004 Aero body kit. That mentions about attachments etc. so I believe it should be OK for ours.

There's a 9-5 2.3t Sedan 1998 on www.speedparts.se and it has the body kit I mention. I just didn't see the fogs.

I am also checking on the Xenon conversion but this also requires a Saab dealers help.

Unfortunately my Saab dealer in town is useless and to be honest there are so few Saabs in Turkey and none are interested in such upgrades. As I didn't get sufficient answer on Xenons, I am checking with a friend in Valeo as they are the supplier.

If you have a dealer nearby or you can check by these over the phone with the dealer, I will be also interested to know that. Ask them to look for the body kit at the accessories. And the list will be long as you will also have to switch from wipers to blades for Xenon.

Please also let me know if you prefer Hirsch bodykit (front only) over 2004 Aero?

Stay tuned

hey Tufan! i apologize for not replying earlier...been really busy..
thanks for that info, i know what you mean, its a hard choice! i think i prefer the hirsh body kit more, it looks much more aggressive...
as for the xenons, i wont be going to a saab dealer, if u know what i mean, its a good deal :cheesy:
the reason i want them so badly is because i have seen numerous luxury cars with blue color xenons and they look incredible, very noticeable on the street and definetly adds class
ofcourse, if i find out anything, i will let you know...as of now, im very limited with time so i am trying to keep up with everything, but please if you find out anything PM me and we can talk some more!
take care Tufan,

Hey Fima, Im sure you can put the Hirsch Kit on your 9-5. If you want to get one in the US try finding an Aero kit either from genuinesaab.com or check out your local Saab dealership;)

I think they come in a pack (from dealer or Saab specialist rather than ebay!) that enables them to be correctly lined up on the car :-?

Had to replace the Se badging on a wing, they come on a plastic template correctly spaced. All you have to do is thoroughly clean where the previous badge was, peel off the backing and apply to the body. They crop up on ebay quite often as well. :cheesy:

Nikolay, great to have you here, what a truely international forum of enthusiasts we have 8)

With regard to the lights, the Saab fog light is expensive and often breaks (one of mine has smashed) so I was wondering about installing projector style round lights in their place and using stainless mesh around them. 8)

I guess that any lamp that would fit could simply be wired into the existing wiring but do you have any tips or suggestions? :-?
