just went to the local scrappies (breakers) and found a brand new CAT... attached to the bottom of a 95' 2.0i NG900, quite an expensive part to replace, and not bad at £25!!
also got the rear sway bar off... going for the double stack untill i can afford the 22mm bar (having done lots of research...) 2 * 15mm bars = twice the stiffness
and one 22mm bar is approx 5 times the stiffness of the standard part.
anyways, please could someone tell me what size bolts i need and how i can get the current sway bar off without breaking the bolts (the 900 i took it off, all 4 bolts sheered off! and i dont want that happening to my car!!!)
many thanks!

oh and de-catting a natrally aspirated car? any thoughts? was thinking straight through pipe, but leave in the mid box and back box...?

Wow :o
That is clean. That is also a lot of cash a lot of cash.

As for your twin bars. You will need to sheer the bolts. You will be very lucky to get them off. Also they will be needed anyway due to the extra length required when mounting the 2nd bar.

You will need 70mm high tensile bolts known as 8 grade with a M8 thread.
The bolt head will have 8.8 stamped on it.
4 M8 nyloc nuts, 8 normal M8 nuts to use as spacers drill the threads out of the nuts using an 8mm drillbit.
16 washers to tidy it all up.

This is my install

well from a little more research i did i have been told, spray the bolts with WD40 or some other lubricant, and drive on it for a few days, re-lubricating the bolts each day, then try to remove them, hopefully a week of driving with fresh lubricant on the bolts should ease them up enough to not sheer off!
in the event they do is the only option to drill them out?

many thanks for all your input guys!

but needs to be flexible?
so some sort of vynal paint? or break caliper paint?

again thanx for ur input... and a little miffed about your comment on a lot of cash? £25
humm, not bad for a part saab list at over £300 inc VAT!!!

Ozzy you are not listening or not reading like so many others on the forum.

When I say alot of cash its wow as in yeah good purchase. That would cast alot of cash. OK

As for your bolts you will be not needing themn anyway. The standards are not long enough to mount the two bars.
If you don't want to listen to people on the forum who have done the job then don't post the questions

sorry, as usual im trying to do 7000 things at once!
just wanted to know if i will have to drill out the bolts if/when they sheer, or if there is any other clever way to remove them without drilling?

many thanx

Yes its easy. If they sheer as mine did and it was a nightmare at first.
Makesure the car is secure ie. if it is jacked put both sides up on stands. Get under the car grab the rollbar in the middle and literally rag the bar off use alot of force. this will help break the rust adhesion.
clean up the holes with an 8mm brill bit.

Once the bar is of get a good thick pointed centre punch and a lump hammer and just drive out the old bolt cores.
If you have any cores left in the mounting points as I did. Use the hammer centre punch and drive them out. The old nuts are 'captive' ie they are attached to a soft plate that will buckle upon removal so don't worry about that.
Then using two feet and 4 hands hold both bars up ignore your cramped leg and screw into place :o :cheesy:

If you look at the now famous post on two stack roll bars you will see that all of us have new bolts and fixtures ect.

This (http://www.saabcentral.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=31134) is the now famous 2 bar post

here is a later link (http://www.saabcentral.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=35050) to a bar topic

ozzy,

u might want to weld a piece of square tubing inbetween both your swaybars for additional stiffness! It shouldnt cost all that much to have this square tubing welded!!

heres a pic of my install!

I painted mine with just Rustoleum Red paint.....its been holding up so far about 8 or 9 months!!

Hay DS where the heck have you been??

Did we not have a discussion on that welding making a nice springy bar a dull stiffbar??

How is the car driving and is the new bodykit still shiny?
I was unable to get the kit in the UK. They are not aloud to sell it outside of NA.

Hey wassup Dead!

Thats a bummer, regarding the kit! It would looked really nice on your ride!

Yes the kit is shiny as ever when the car is washed ha! I havent gave her a bath in about a month!!

I have been going through a custody battle for my 6 year old daughter the last month or two! I spent $3000 dollars in attorney fees last week!!!! Lets see that coulda been my new ECU, new rims....etc ha!

As far as the springy swaybar, i dont recall!!! I have been taking 90 degree corners at 60 mph without a problem!!! lol

ok more like 30mph......but so far so good no problems, the rear stays on the ground. I am running the front swaybar too by MP Performance!!
