Looks kind of like an Lexus RX330/Infiniti FX45 from the side, can't wait until the cloth comes off.

What's the point in having two SUVs in Saabs product line?
The 9-7X and this Saabaru will be overkill. I bet people will buy neither.

BMW has 2, Lexus has 3, Infiniti has 2, Lincoln has 2, Toyota has 4, Ford has 3, Mercedes has 2, Caddy has 2.

Just keeping up with the Joneses.

Kind of reminds me of the ugly Aztec. When will GM ever learn?

that thing is a family car. it's no suv.

the 9-7X will live on and i bet saab is working with GM for the next platform. if they really want to keep their foot in the door then they need truck and not just some car jacked up.

i want a toareg beater

with this i don't think there could be a 9-5 wagon. maybe they will call it the 9-5X or the 9-4X

You can already see the new hideous Subaru grille under the camouflage. If only they had changed their minds.

i actually like the look of the concept. expect a mix of outback and this thing.

i can't imagine what saab will come up with since they are just using the chassis

The front overhang is short, that's good.

Overall the vehicle has good proportions. It's obviously not attractive in its camouflaged state, but you have to think ahead. They have something good to work with here. After they apply Saab styling cues, I think it will be a good looking ride.

The Immediate competition.

SAAB is going to have to work hard to out do this thing. I'm not even a fan of Merc but if I had a family this might be my next car.

It's a 4+2, Saab has a slight advantage b/c the 9-6X is to be a 5+2

Sadly, SAAB was never one to keep up with the Joneses. Nor was Subaru for that matter.

I wish I was, probably GM applying a little muscle there.

Is that thing supposed to be a saab. It is defintly not a saab. The grill is wrong (although they could change it) and the body lines are not saab at all. Look at the hood.

It's the new Subaru SUV which is also being put into use as the Saab 9-6X. After the Subie version hits the market, the Saab will probably appear 6-12 months later.

You can see the ugly....er, I mean, GM influence there. They think ugly=distinctive. ie Avalanche/Aztec/Rainier/That silly little truck thing/Malibu Maxx/Monte Carlo/Impala.

I have never seen such a large and varied lineup of ugly-***** cars than the GMs of late. They all look like they are made from cheap plastic and leftover vinyl siding.

Whatever happened to the NICE Monte Carlo? Impala? They USED to be distinctive. Now they are ugly. AAAck.

Actually come to think of it, in that photo it also kinda reminds me of a Mitsu SUV. Or a Matrix/Vibe.

Ah, but what the heck do I know. Just my $.02

hopefully saab is given enough money to change the shape of the c-pillar. it will of course have it's own face. i just want the platform shared. nothing more.

I thought it kinda looked like the Infiniti FX. Still, it looks too simmilar to something else on the market. Hopefully the Saab will be more distinctive.

the FX and the Murano are the same type of car but the FX is based on the G35s platform

I don't get how Subaru wants to sell their version for around $40,000. First of all, 40 grand for a Subaru is not right. But then where does that leave the Saab? I know they say they don't attract the same customers, but doesn't it seem Saab got a bad deal?

squishmann
29-12-04, 08:43 PM
i would think 40k for the maxed out version. car will probably start at about 32-33k

the saab should carry a premium of 3k more. i don't think saab is getting a bad deal out of this at all. if done right this should turn out to be a great car. subaru migh actually regert this

Read the new '06 SAAB 9-6x will be debuted at the NYC Auto Show in Spring '05.

FYI.

Saw the new 9-7x at the DC Auto Show today and wifey and both liked it immensely. Very SAABish. Anyone who says: "It's not a SAAB," has no bloody idea what they're talking about.

It does look a little better than the spy pics, and the interior is pretty nice, better than the Impreza and old Legacy. And Car and Driver says it will be sold under a different name here. Anything is better than B9X.

squishmann
02-01-05, 10:56 AM
I thought the name was going to be Tribeca. How about B9 Tribeca

we should ask the designer

B9 Tribeca is what Subaru has it on their website. But another thing, does 9-6X sound a little weird? And it's pretty close to B9X. What's with all the strange names, or numbers, on cars?

saab has always used 9 __ for their cars. it goes back to the aircraft days.

new projects always started with nines 96,99 900, 9000.

by time they got to the 9-5 it would have been 9,000,000. so since it was no longer saab the plane company they started the 9-3, 9-5 thing.

now X suposedly means AWD.

i think they messed up when they gave the 9-7X, 9-7, that should have been reserved for a premium saloon.

odd numbers for cars and evens for crossovers and SUVs

9-1(premium compact ala A3, 1series)
9-2x(hatchback)
9-3 (sedan, wagon, notchback, coupe)
9-4x(roadster(9x))
9-5(sedan, wagon, notchback)
9-6x(crossover 2+2+3)
9-7(luxury sedan)
9-8x(suv)
9-9(supercar colab w/ koenigsegg)

9-S(onnet)

vehicles with AWD receive a Grippen badge or if we get enought votes the T.I.T.S. badge (SC joke):p

Actually, if you take a step back and reconsider, the Subbie looks a bit like the early Saabs (93, 96, etc) with the "airplane wings" on either side of the vertically oriented grill. Overall, the design is quite unique when compared to other makes and taken in the retro-Saab point of view, kind of nice.

Now let's see what Saab can do with it, as the trend there is anything but retro. The direction taken with the 9-X and 9-3 Hatch is both Saab-like and a clean modern look. One can hope that the 9-6X will be very distinct yet modern Saab at the same time.

And please hurry up, or I might trade the V-70 in on an LR3 or XC-90 V-8.
