: Will a 245/40/17 fit our cars?

I need to replace my Michelin Pilot HX MXM tires on my 17X8" BBS RK wheels soon. I've decided to go w/ Kumho MX tires and was thinking of plus sizing. The MX is known for its lightweight, so I think I could get away w/ a larger tire and still weigh less than the Michelin's or about the same. Will the 245/40 rub? It only weighs a pound more than the 225/45 (23 lbs vs. 22 lbs for the 225/45), so unsprung weight should be too much of an issue. I'm worried about rubbing problems in the front, and having the tires bulge off the rims (making turn-in seem squirmy). I do have the Eibach Pro System installed, so the car sits lower than stock. Not sure if this will affect this or not.

I'm new to this site, so if anyone has experience or has a good set-up in plus sizing, please let me know. Thanks for your help.

Ok, somebody help me out here. What is the largest tire size that you think would fit on our cars? I know people are running 235/45/17, so this is possible. This post has 80 views, but no responses. Someone has to have an idea brewing out there. Thanks :) .

I would bet you will have rubbing issues with that width of tire. Speedparts new project 9-5 S-Lime is running with 255 tires on 20" wheels but if you look at the pic the wheels look too big IMO and there is no way they are not rubbing as there is zero gap left in the wheel well. Stick with the 235.

Thanks for your response! I'm assuming I'd still need to run a 45-series sidewall w/ the 235's, yes? I may just stick w/ the stock size if that's the case. Thanks, again.

I think the 18" - 235's come in 40-Series for performance tires. Check Tire Rack. I am thinking about using the current 17"s for snow tires and getting a set of 18"s for the spring, summer and fall.
