Hi Guys

How much would you expect to pay for a 9-5 Replacement Turbo?

I'm not quite sure what you mean about a replacement turbo.

Do you mean a factory unit to replace one that has gone bad, or some sort of upgrade?

Also, what engine do you have. is it the 2.0L 4-cyl, the 2.3L 4-cyl or the 3.0L V6?

Model year of the 9-5 may also be useful information...

Depending on what model you have about £700 inc for a Genuine Saab Turbocharger. You can probably get one a bit cheaper from somewhere like Turbo Technics.

An outfit like Turbo Technics would take your old turbocharger in part exchange, further reducing the cost. An overhauled turbo from them is probably no different to a brand new unit off the shelf from Saab.

What's wrong with the turbo?

Depending on your engine (4cyl or 6cyl) ou could consider a Aero turbo to be installed if the job is not being done under warranty. That would install a Mitsubishi TD04H and
require some cooling and oil lines to be replaced.

Many of our customers do this as the performance gains are worthwhile and the added longevity of the TD04s far surpasses the GT17's. The additional cost will not be very
much more if you have a supporting deal working with you and
pushes performance upgrades at less than retail costs.

Victor

I'm assuming you would set it to a lower boost than in the Aero though, right?

Cause as I understand it the Aero has a significantly different set internal components meant to deal with the higher boost than in the standard engine...

I could be wrong though...

The mechanical components of the Aero and the LPT engines are the same (other than valve material from memory). The differences are all in the electronics.

If you used the standard LPT pressures but the Aero turbo unit, you will probably get longer life and very similar overall performance, but you may get a slight increase in tubo lag. As the Aero unit is larger diameter it may take a (very small) amount of extra time to spool up to speed. While this is possible, it is most likely you wouldn't even notice it.

I went smoky at 65K miles and went to Abbott Racing for a replacement turbo on my 9-5. Standard unit just under £500 (+ £100 Fitting)...but I went for their upgraded hybrid turbo @ £795. Feeling extravagant they also upgraded the ECU (with a £150 discount on the Unit cost).

End result is £1400 lighter in the wallet dept, 210bhp or thereabouts and a car that I want to keep forever..highly recommended (and yes it does have a handling kit!).

All that I need now is a grey leather interior..and there just happens to be one on e bay at present (should I have told you that ? ).
