I wanted to change either the whole exhaust system or at least the muffler on my 97 900S 2.3liter non-turbo. Saabperformanceparts.com sells a free flow exhaust system for my car for$600 but many say the HP increase probably wouldn't be noticeable being that my car isn't really modified much anyway (though if i got teh free flow i would add an adjustable fuel pressure regulator) The muffler would be much cheaper and they claim some small power increase too. I'm more going for a different sounding exhaust but wondered if i should go with the free flow or just a different muffler? If the muffler any brand anyone can recommend as being good?

ya i heard it doesnt do much if u dont have a turbo. Sounds nice tho, and will last longer if u get stainless steel.
according to SD, if u get a better exhaust, exhaust manifold, and a air intake u can get 20 extra horsies.

So do u think maybe i should just go with a muffler instead? It would be a hell of a lot cheaper. Does anyone recommend a certain type of muffler that has a good reputation?

I also have a '97 saab, however mine is the SE 2.0L turbo model. I was at Midas today with another car, and mentioned putting a new muffler or exhaust on my saab. When I said it, he somewhat laughed and said that it would be near impossible and risky. Anyone know if this is true or if not, if someone who has modified either could give me some input, it would be greatly appreciated

id go for the whole thing for the stainless steel, it will last longer so u wont have to replace it in the future, or u could wait until u really need it, then u could get the whole thing.
dont worry about adding an exhaust, it will work. Why he laughed i dunno, i think hes just a moron that works at midas
For the slow:
I own a '93 Saab 900S

I need to replace the exhaust on my 94 900se turbo. I have a huge leak just behind the cat. What do you all recomend putting on their to get a little extra power out of the car?

If you are leaking behind the catalytic converter, I would think that the only way to get more power from the car would be to move the leak to the front of the catalytic converter (by removing it  ).

u probably could get a free-flow cat, or take it out as kjj said
