: Sell it to me please....

8th June 2004, 07:43 AM
I put an ad on the site looking for a decent 99 here in Ireland....and got a call from a chap who has a 79 turbo in his father's barn out on the coast.

After several calls....I finally drove out on saturday to view the car.

It's a red 2 door 1979 99t in fairly okay condition. It's covered in dust, and doesn't start, but I was drooling!

He says he doesn't know if he wants to sell or keep, but will get back to me.

I'm agonising over what is a reasonable length of time before I hassle him again to make an offer....Help!

I reckon he wouldn't have phoned you if he didn't want to sell it...

I'd call him now if I were you, it will make you seem like an enthusiast more than doing nothing will. :D

Sounding too interested will only jack up the price.

True.....I can't imagine why he did a U-Turn, maybe it's because he saw my nice 900 Carlsson, and decided to tart up his 99t.

It's been sitting in his barn like something out of "Green Acres" though.

Sounding too interested will only jack up the price.

You probably don't have as much bargaining power when it's covered in dust in a barn and won't start. :)

Just show up with money and dont take know for an answer. Take him out for a pint first?

8th June 2004, 05:33 PM
You should have shown up on a bicycle and than asked him if he would buy you a pint or two. Than offer him $50 and tell him you need the car to take your sick Mum to the doctor every Friday.

Three days, show up with a friend point out grief points that you are willing and able to live with or fix. "Yes thats the infamous sticky warm up switch that causes gasoline to leak into the engine after sitting for over 4 months. I think I might be able to get Joe, he's an expert, to replace and fix it for $300 " A good size list 4 to 6 items, all significant. " Are you sure you really want to buy into this sort of agrivation?"
