Most of you may all ready know this, but in our local paper the other day it talked about the 9-7 being built here in ohio, at the GM plant. Sure G.M. has some nice cars, but the reason I bought a saab was because in wasn't G.M. FORD , ECT.

I may be wrong but to me saab is just becoming another high priced G.M. product.

May be time to switch back to BMW.

bmw builds cars in the U.S.

what's the big deal.

as long as the guys who come up with the design and engineering are swedish, i could care less where it is assembled

So your next car is a Koenisegg then, right? :-?

The point here isnt where its made.. but sure id rather buy a car that is made in sweden or germany than made in the US... however the point that the 9-7 is made in the USA only puts the icing on the cake that its built completely with GM parts, with GM styling and with a GM platform. The only thing that attempts to say that this car is swedish is its front grill and an emblem. That in no way justifies it as a swedish car. It is an American SUV. You cannot argue that.

everyone knows that it is an american suv. but in 3-4 years it will not be the same situation. saab sw will use more of their engineering and have more control over the parts content. they have taken what they where given in the short period of time and have tried to put some of their flavor on it. we will only know in a year if they were successful

the 9-3SS is swedish and it doesn't seems all that great to me.

VW builds the Jetta in Mexico and europe. there is no difference b/w the two.

i look at who was the original group that engineered this car. not what group of overpayed/underpayed workers assembled it. if the swedes put the a good process on how the car should be assembled then there should be no issues. they could have a chimp do it.

What engineering? They just fired the whole saab engineering team. I hardly doubt that this will happen. What they are basically saying is, yeah we know it sucks, but dont worry it will be better soon.... why not do it right NOW? Simply because they cant. I dont see these cars getting "better" in the near future. Maybe bigger powerplants, and overall normal advancements, but its not going to change all of a sudden from a bland GM product to a unique European car.

the 9-3SS is swedish and it doesn't seems all that great to me. You are right, it isnt. The styling is wonderful, but the GM influence is clearly recognized when you look at everything else.

Like what?

Surely you don't mean the interior

inregards to the 9-3, cheap plastics and materials. but it is a great car so let's not bash it

the reason wh they cannot do it now is because they have no money. as soon as they get the money then they can do whatever they want.

did they really fire 1200 engineers. or 1200 workers? i find it kind of hard to believe that they would fire that many important people.

I really hold hope that someday carmakers (read: GM, but all of them) will realize that a vehicle is supposed to be made for the people, not for the ease of producion/design. It's not supposed to be easy to fix, it shouldn't be easy to replace. Your car is supposed to be just that, YOUR car. A design is supposed to appeal to it's buyer. It should be like a best friend to you. Maybe GM can wake up. Maybe Saab will be resored to the marquee is has been loved for in the past. Somewhere in the bottom of my heart, Saab will come out triumphant. Being a lover of Saab, one must embrace the bad with the good. The GM-infusion period will be looked back upon and laughed at, as the akward teenage years of a genius carmaker. If you must, keep driving your C900. And I'll pass you by in my 9000T. But, we're both on our way to the Saab dealership to look at a new model. Twin-turbo, AWD, RWD, FWD, Blackout panel, key in the dash, key in the floor, key in the roof, convertible, whatever makes it a Saab. One does not live without hope. And seeing as how 95% of you are Saab drivers already, being here shows you're in love with the brand. And love doesn't give up at the littlest sign of failure. Stand by your lovely lady Saab, and we'll see this through...

Wow, that was sappy. So, what's that about Donald Trump buying Saab...

yes i do mean the interior. I found the 9-3 interior not as solid and nice as i would have liked it to be. I found it very GM-like. Not to bash the 9-3ss though, i would own one in a second

Supposedly, the 9-7 is the first interior built in the US that Bob Lutz feels is upto par.

Well, I guess we'll have to disagree. I came from a GM car, and have had several others. The 9-3 interior looks NOTHING like a typical GM product, if you ask me.

Have you ever sat in one at night? The look of the green dash is very cool. I think that every time I get in it

Oh, i completely agree the interior looks absolutely nothing like a GM car (thankfully). Ive driven one and i love the green dash and everything about it. Im just saying the fit and finish of it all didnt seem as solid as it should be, thats all.

What I don't understand is the fact the GM Europe interiors are Volkswagen level of fit and finish (hopefully not in quality since W is near the bottom). I sat in the new opel astra and it had such a tight and well fitted interior.

If GME can do this why cant GMNA? Especially since that sort of thing is determined by the suppliers, which are global.

Is that Peugeot? :) Peugeot set up shop over here once. My family owned a 505 wagon for about 5 years. It was a great car, had the most comfortable seats (better than the Saabs), but it was underpowered, and was like a VW reliability wise (although that hasn't stopped the people's car). Dealer service was spotty.

They'll need to do a better job next time around.

Actually, my dad owned an Alfa Romeo Alfetta GT as well. Look where they are. I hope my owning a Saab hasn't doomed their US aspirations as well. :)

I think that what killed a lot of the Euros and what may eventually do in Saab are the Japanese. Toyota and Honda offer a superior product at a lower price, to compete you must do the same and the French, Italian and some German (VW was nearly booted as well) didn't. The proof was in the pudding and the French and Italian cars turned out to be junk while the Japanese ran well into 300K and did it without flushing too much cash out of your pocketbook. What good is a fun to drive slick sports sedan i.e. Alfa if it's at the mechaninc's all the time?

The 9-3SS interior is by no means cheap. It is defintely not as good as its other competitors, and it does not resemble GM in any way; whether it was in the exterior or interior styling

it feels flimsy. in all of the 9-3s that i have been in there is at least an inch between the headliner and the roof
