I had a plan how to make a custom cold air intake for my 900 T8, but the job seems too much work right now, and while I am going to upgrade to T16 spec eventually, it doesn't seem worthwhile.

Question is, can the standard air intake cope with 1.0 bar max boost and increased airflow of the JT 3" exhaust?
I know there's a drop-in K&N element available, but that's too damn expensive, and I hear it's not that much better than the standard assembly.

What should I do?

Yes, that's definetely possible, but there isn't much space where to fit the filter.
Originally it was supposed to go where the stock intercooler once was located, but with my new IC, I noticed that the pipework took too much of the available space there.

The problem with the standard element is that it is very close to the wall of the airbox and effectively all the air concentrates at the point where the inlet snorkel is. Simply drilling some large holes in the body of the airbox will improve things.
