How come the second hand value of 9-5's seems to be so low?

There are 2 R reg (late 97/early98) 9-5s in Loot. One £4995 and the other £4495. No mileage in ads so obviously been to the moon & back. Talk about scary depreciation!!

At those prices I might be tempted to buy one myself!

Simon.

Wow, new forum, I got to post here too

What was the year when 9-5 was first released? Usually when a new model is introduced, it takes a year or so for the manufacturer to sort out/fix most the "children's diseases", I can remeber that at least in Finland Saab was calling some of the 9-5's in for some brake/steering modifications due to bad quality parts from subcontractors (at least that was the "official" explanation), and probably you all can remember (still makes me smile maliciously...) the "Elk test"-catastrophy on the A-series Mercedes  I don't know better, but this could be one reason, why early 9-5's value isn't that great...And yes, I'd be tempted to buy one at those prices!!

BTW, to the moon and back it would about 610k miles, nothing that a Saab couldn't handle, or what

That's true about early cars, I remember something about A-arms? breaking?

Just noticed on the Saab website that the
9-5 Turbo SE was 'What Car' used car of the year 2001.

Here in the states, the Saab 9-5 is rated right up there with the Lexus (toyota) and Honda as far as reliability, according to Consumer Reports.

They apparently have trouble with the on board computer (or SID?). Wouldn't be a big deal bit it controls the radio etc.

The niggles on the early 9-5's are with the LCD's!
The SID and ACC panel both loose pixels, my SID was replaced under warranty by the previous owner, think every early 9-5 has had at least one SID!
My ACC panel occansionally looses a few symbols, but as this doesn't affect its working, I'm ignoring it!

Another batch of prblems was with the Turbos, blowing blue smoke due to ineffective cooling, I would think all were replaced under warranty, there is a Technical Bullitin about it!

What do you call early? as you know mine's a 1999 and you know my SID problems murphwiz :-? but after all It's made by Nokia not the best reputation for there LCD displays :o So on the subject of the 9-5 being a good car it is and I'm sure in the future someone will will find a way to fix/recondition the SID unit to a satisfactory condition. At the end of the day how many problems has the 9k got and people still love and buy them,so long live the 9-5
