Does anyone know if on the old 900's, if you can replace the corner signal lights, with clear corners? Are they actually manufactured, or would they have to be custom made?

elkparts are advertising the clear sidelight/indicator lenses... give it a go!

Hey thanks a lot, you were right. Problem is, is that they don't know if they will begin manufacturing them unless they get a lot of interest. So, if you get the chance, any of you, go to http://www.elkparts.com, and click on the clear corners advertisement, and then do the survey, (takes like 30 sec), thank you

http://www.speedparts.se

It's in Swedish so you have to randomly click links unless yer fluent but just email the guys with what you're looking for and they'll try to help you out. If you click on the English site the products are completely different so that's why you have to stay looking at Swedish.

Yes, Speedparts have them and I highly recommend you to email them. Excellent service!

Oh, and those lenses are manufactured not custom made. Excellent quality, made by ScanTech Sweden. I think that Elkparts will get them from the same supplier.

The cost of shipping just one set is a killer. By ordering in bulk we aim to get the cost as low as possible so that people ordering just one set from elkparts (http://www.elkparts.com/) will not be faced with massive shipment costs.

Nah... they look a little too "rice" for my liking anyway.

Matty

"rice", i haven't heard that word in awhile. No i think the clear corners would look sharp. But clear tailights might be pushing it.

I've posted my interest on the Elkparts site.

I really hope they get some into the UK, as it'd be much easier than getting them from Speedparts.

I think those clear indicators look really nice - and since they suit all other Saab models so well, why wouldn't they look good in a post-87 model as well?

About rear lights, I think single-colour rear lights would also be an improvement.
They could be red, black, clear etc.
Problem is you can't get such things anywhere... In my project's progress, I would be interested in a set of two even if they were a bit expensive. Do you know if anyone has had a set custom made to any car?
It probably wouldn't require more than replacing the lenses and bulbs, right?

Alex
17th July 2002, 02:23 PM
I've been thinking about a set of solid red tail lights for mine. About only way I can think of is to use a special red tinting spray then laquer it afterwards.

Matty
17th July 2002, 03:16 PM
all red taillights would be sweet. I am sure that you could get them custom made no problem. Probably set ya back about 200 bucks, whatever that is in euro's or whatever currency you use.
I had a guy once who was goin to make me clear/white tailights for that price but then i backed out because i thought that would just be wrong.

john-w
17th July 2002, 08:00 PM
Well Elkparts have just had my credit card details for the clear front indicators, just a matter of waiting for them to arrive, they have stated 14 days, we will have to wait and see if this is correct!!

Smackrazor
17th July 2002, 09:17 PM
Euros is pretty much the same as dollars and I tinted my tailights using black rc model car spray tint at $4 a can. A lot cheaper than $30 a can for the "real" car tint stuff and that rc car stuff hasn't come off or anything.

that would be intense if they had clear rear lights (like u see on a lot of "rice" cars). and red and yellow bulbs, sorta like the front ones

87SPGIN
18th July 2002, 01:12 AM
yeah the clear fronts are cool looking and even if we had clear rears they might look ok we have a very diff styled car (c900)than the rest of the ricers so it'll be an eye catcher and on elkparts when you pay the $99 in american thats what it is converted is that for a pair (both sides) or only one side or car for that price.thnks

Janne Selinummi
18th July 2002, 01:12 AM
Clear rear lights don't necesserily make the car look "ricey". IMHO "rice" is styling with bad taste or no taste at all. I'm a designer by hobby, and hopefully by profession as well one day.
My philosophy in Saab styling is to give the car a sleek, more modern look while preserving the classic lines and most importantly, the Saabness.
I'm thinking colour-coded Airflow bodykit, an original Saab grille with alloy mesh, clear front indicators and single-colour rear lights. Then I'd remove all the badges, and maybe add subtle, small decals reading "900 Evolution" or something else in the places where the "turbo" badges once were.

Matty
18th July 2002, 09:31 AM
One day my saab will be done up very nicely and tastefully down. It just might take many years though. Got to pay for university first. But i am thinking along the same lines as you. But i would have to add a set of 17 inch smoked rims, and paint the car a gun metal grey.

Ah, you don't mean the altezzas then. That'd look a bit better but I still prefer tinted stock.

Janne Selinummi
19th July 2002, 05:32 AM
I think completely clear rear light would suit the c900 sedan a lot better than the combicoupe. Fir the combi, red or black would be better IMO.
Tinting could be the solution, but for me it isn't - that's illegal in Finland, and they can make you change the lights back to original spec if you have sprayed or lacquered them... Darn politics!

Matty
19th July 2002, 09:27 AM
Oh i have never said that these clear lights were manufactured, or maybe they are somewhere else but here, but there is guy in my city who does custom clear lights for any car. So you bring him your car, and in a couple days, there clear. Like i said, i was goin to get it done, but i am having second thoughts. I think i should clean up any rust spots and paint chips before i added something like that on. And those altezzas were absolutely disgusting, no offence to whoever's car is that. I would never.

for now i think ill just tint it.

All-red could look very nice too, especially with a full-widht decor panel of the same colour. That would contribute to the general unfussed style I'm after, less details and thus more emphasis on the overall form and styling of the car.

Its just with one person buying them it will cost $140 with buying through Elkparts.com over the net. Shipping is like $45 in U.s. money to the states. The thing is you will still have to pay VAT. :-?

But if we can get more than ten people we can get a discount but not sure how much of one, and perhaps the VAT lifted from the price too, but that is ALOT of paper work I hear.

I actually called up Bo Engstrom (of www.engstrom.net), and they do sell the clear cornering lamps (same as the www.speedparts.se units). Aparently they are out of stock until the end of this month, and they go for $99USD. But they do indeed sell them. Sounds like a deal to me, especially when the OE ones are going for almost the same from www.eeuroparts.com and such...
