I have 1997 Nissan Altima GXE, awesome car, very reliable, has enough balls, the only thing that kills it is extremely cheap interior and rattles.

What do you have ?

DeLorean
20-05-04, 12:08 AM
Well I have several.

1960 Impala -- http://home.comcast.net/~drednot/DSC00481.JPG
1992 Pontiac sunbird
1990 pontiac 6000 SE/all wheel drive
and 3 saabs, I know you didn't ask, but they are 78 99-T, 89 SPG. 88 SPG.

well, i live with my parents, and they have a 98 suburban (no suv jokes, we have 6 people in our family and we haul stuff all the time) and a 97 ford f150 (see above)

that impala is hot DeLorean.

oh man, Castor, i bet it's rough to have SUV and a truck when prices on gas are like 2.10 for regular.

92 suburban, 00 suburban, 78 beetle, 99 9-3, you can go with the SUV jokes, my mom is crazy about them, and she fits those soccer mom drivers. I can take it

Hmmm, whats in the family stockpile...well, obviously I have my '97 900S, also have my '86 900, family cars: '02 VW Passat, '96 Honda Accord, and a '93 Volvo 240. No SUV's in this family :nono; :nono;

Well we need to transport kids and associated clobber so obviously we need an SUV.... :nono; NOOOOOO!!!!

That's why we have a 1976 Daimler XJ coupe, highly practical family motoring!

bravo that man  clap clap etc..
as far as i can remember there's only four reasons to own an SUV-
1. the need to tow a large horsebox / powerboats etc. (delete as applicable)
2. the need to go properly offroad (not just wet grass, lamers)
3. the need for a car completely unsuited to 99% of all your driving time.
4. fashion.

think that covers most of it..

'98 volvo v70 - titled to my dad
'98 mercedes ML320 - titled to my mom (again women and their suv's )
'89 Saab 900T16 - title to me :-D

now if i could just steal my dads leather interior... :cheesy:

I tell ya, I get a kick out of a current promotion run by some car/SUV company. Not sure which, maybe Dodge or Ford, if you buy thier vehicle they'll give you a free "Sports Appearance Package", a $500 value!!!, I'm still trying to figure out they do for that one.

Rhino2.3t
20-05-04, 09:14 AM
$500? i bet its just a big sheet of brightly coloured sport decals for your SUV :D to help you be more 'individual'...
possibly saying things like..

'4 x Lame'
'School Run Expedition'
'Extreme Parking Lot Fender'
'Canyonero Edition'
'High Definition Sport Pro'
'Backwoods Weekender'
'The High Output Original'

and stuff like that.. its nearly a thread by itself :idea

Try a vauxhall cavalier. Mk 2 in this case. Now they're called Vectras. (As they always were in Europe). You'll remember the Vectra platform is used for a modern-ish swedish vehicle of similar proportions..

Co-incidence? Yes.

Those who have grown up in the back of MkI, II and IIIs (me) all (still me) agree that Blue MkIIs are the best.

Actually IIRC the Mk 2 cav was called an Ascona in Europe. The Vectra name only started with the MK III Cav equivalent

Apart from 2 9000s and an classic 900, I have a Ford (BLAAAAGH)Courier van which cost me 100 and an engine. My other half has a rubbish Volvo 440 which is rusting around the back wheel arches and doors and loads of (Renault) engine oil leaks. So we're going to sell it and she now uses my cast off 9000 auto which is 6 years OLDER than the Volvo and 30,000 miles more on the clock, but is still completely rust free and still a joy to drive. Oh, and it sailed through it's MOT last week after 6 months off the road.

Satin Silver Metallic 2002 Honda CR-V EX (RTFWD). Goes nice w/ the silver metallic 97 900 SE 2.0 turbo. I got my Saab to save a little on gas, but don't know what we'd do w/o the V. AWD is great, no matter what anyone wants to argue. The extra space is great to strech out in on long trips, also. We've got a 1 yrd. old so it's a great hauler and a relative gas sipper. Oh, and I work as an archaeologist so it's the perfect field vehicle for me. The space is more than comparable size body on frame SUVs and the lack of low range selectable 4wd keeps me from doing anything REALLY stupid.

1989 Cadillac Brougham (was free - looks brand new - going up for sale soon)

1998 Chevy K1500 Silverado ext. cab pickup

...and a 2001 VW New Beetle GLX Turbo (trying to convince someone to dump it and get an '04 Aero vert - except

No worse than a 93 900-S ;) seriously, it is kind of a WT car, but the SE / all wheel drive model will take care of any 900-S for power and in the snow... forget it. pop the 6000 into 4 wheel lock mode and it could go where some 4WD SUV's can't. as for reliability, it's no worse than any saab... the 3.1 V6 is will known for being a 250,000 mile engine. the 3 speed auto is the same.

Can't contribute to this thread, 'cos all of ours are Saabs!

'74 95V4 - nearly back on the road - weekend fun car
'75 95V4 - long term restoration project
'01 9-3 SE 2.2 TiD - high-miler company car (83K, 45 impg)
'02 9-5 Aero Auto Wagon - actually belongs to my wife but I'm occasionally allowed to drive it. Great tow-car (for older Saabs being collected!).

IMHO the only SUVs worth having are (a) real Land Rover or (b) Range Rover - the rest are for posers - but I still don't need one.

Its not that bad!. Most of the bits on it are standard bits, and its fairly simple.
You need some specially shortened/bent spanners to get some of the bits off, and extra joints in some of your limbs to reach other bits, but apart from that! :D (The coil/ballast resistor was playing up on mine, and i cant actually reach the old one to take it out!)

eesh...i hope i don't offend when i say that that car is hideous :o

my family collectively owns a Lexus RX-300, a Chrysler...minivan thing, and a Saturn SL2. the saturn is actually kinda sporty, but that's mostly due to it being made out of plastic, and having REALLY low gear ratio's. i hate the lexus. it drives horribly, the blind spots are ginormous, and it's just downright boring to look at. i kinda enjoy driving the minivan, though. it handles suprisingly well, turns nicely (with a bit of body roll, tho...duh) and dispite it's size is alot easier to control than the lexus, mainly because you get more feedback, particularly fron the steering wheel. the steering wheel of the lexus is dead.
