More bad news for Saab. Michael Mauer joins Porsche this summer.

i'm not suprised at all, he didn't have any new projects to work on. a monkey can put a saab grill on an envoy.

I'm not so sure about that. There's a new 9-5 in the works. A 9-3 sport hatch. Maybe a Sonett too. Seems like there are several projects to work on yes?

Porsche would be more exciting though.

Yeah, I'd say he left because he got a better job (and more than likely, higher paying), not because there was nothing to do.

Still, bad news for Saab. Hopefully the stuff coming out the next few years is reasonably fleshed out, otherwise we'll likely see yet another new styling direction, which is not what Saab really needs right now.

I'm sure Saab will still use Mauer's current design ideas for future models. Probably someone in-house (Anthony Lo, head of advanced design) might take-over from there.

Well wh have been on this general styling direction since before he came to Saab in 2000 so I think we will be okay. He just evolved the design like any good designer would. I don't think anyone is going to even try to pull a Chris Bangle on Saab!

saab is saying that they have nothing in the works for a new 9-5. nothing.

the only thing i can think is concrete is the 9-3 line up

As long as they don;t try and get Chris Bangle from BMW. Look at how he has totally stuffed their design direction.

Eh, love him or hate him (I'm a little both ways on him) Bangle did get people talking. If people were talking about a controversial Saab design, at least they'd be talking about a Saab.

Mauer's designs will live on for a few more years, at least. We've barely received any of the cars he had a hand in. 9-3 was already done by the time he got there. All he claims credit for is the wheels. I guess the 9-3 hatch is his legacy unless he has new 9-5 plans he left.
