Just been looking through our photo albums and I found this photo of me when I was younger. Can you guess what my favorite toy car was?

Anyone else start early? :D

This is me, at about 3 in 1983. I am vague on the facts on the cars, My mom says the one on the right was her 1980 900 T. That I know is the car that brought me home from the hospital. :D

Aw how sweet! And you had to push start that one as well, how things come full circle, eh? :cheesy:

And to answer teh question, I was always a BL child. Brought up surrounded my Morris Minors. Still am - the same ones :)

No pictures, but I had one of the Bburago models of a racing Alfa Romeo Alfetta. My dad had a an identical one, and of course the real thing - a 1979 Alfetta. I loved getting to ride with my Dad in that car.

My parents have memories of me identifying cars in the years before I even have memory of, so apparently I got bit at a fairly young age. :)

my parents both had Saabs as i was growing up...a couple different 95's (1970/71) and then an incredible-i-wish-i could-find-a-photo-of-it pumpkin orange 99! then my dad had a maroon 900 when they first came to the states....that turned him off, apparently it was pretty bad, and they went back to the 95's...

MY first car was a 1971 95...right after the 9000's came out. one can only imagine exactly how cool i was  ...tooling around high school in my 95...the grandmother of all those 9000's the rich kids had! i'm pretty sure there was more pink bondo than white car...

can't telll you how many cross country drives my sister and i did in the back of the 99 with the seat down and a big foam pad in the back! then there were the trips in the 95!

meeemmmoooorrrriiiiesss......

hope i wasn't the only one who had a General Lee (out of dukes of hazard) to push around when i was young??

have obviously now come to my senses and it was totally down to my dad having 900's when i was younger, as well as being the envy of my mates cos my dad got a 9000 Carlsson when it came out, that i have ended up a SAAB nut too.

When my brother was born, I was 1 1/2 (almost exactly).. People brought him gifts and ****, and my mom's godmother thought it would be nice to get me somethin' too.. she got me an orange Matchbox Pontiac Firebird.. I've been obsessed with cars ever since..

Half of my family (the half that I grew up with) is Italian, so they had a lot of Italian cars.. Italian cars (Alfas, Fiats, Lancias, Autobianchis) were my first love (and Italian food :cheesy: )

Then when I was around.. 4-6? I dunno, something like that, one of my grandpa's good friends (the funniest old guy you'll ever meet) bought a C900 (one of the last ones, I think) and that started my obsession with Saabs.. I was always at my grandparent's and this old guy parked his C900 in the driveway, it looked soo different from anything else that I'd ever seen. Old man died, I dunno what happened to his Saab..

I moved to Italy for a while, don't remember any Saabs there.. Then I moved to Georgia, that was hell, but I was too much into TV and video games to pay much attention to cars, then I moved to California, hardly ever saw a Saab, then I moved here and started noticing some every now and then, and in July '01, someone moved in next door and parked his '85 900t.. It's been parked since, and I've been trying to buy it since..

And that's my Saab story.. I've wanted a C900 since that old man bought one..

I grew up around Triumphs, Mercedes Benz's and Volvo's [ a lot of Volvos]. I remember a school teachers partner when I was about 6 had a Saab wagon which i liked, and a buddy's parents had a 99 as I recall.

When I was a baby, a quick drive round the block in the 96 was enough to get me to sleep :D

Also had a sonnet-3 model when I was about 2! Wish I could find that....

Some interesting stories here :D

I'll never forget the first ride I had in my grandfather's new 91 900i 5dr. I think I was about twelve. I'd never been in a car with electric windows and a drivetrain so quiet (by my standards, at least) that you could actually talk to your brother in the back seat! I was enthralled....

Now my granddad has a 9-5 wagon and I have the 900i 3dr he always wanted but didn't buy for practicality reasons. It's a bond of mutual envy - I love his for the space and reliability and he loves mine for the classic shape and SAAB 'weirdness'.

Even my dad is getting into Saabs after growing up with Renaults and VWs in his blood! If I ever have kids, they'll be zooming their model 900's on the floor as soon as they can crawl ;)

i never had a saab toy, but the 900 i'm driving right now was bought brand new my by dad 2 months before i was born, and it's been in the family ever since. we're kind of attatched to her... :)

This thread was an inspiration for me to spread the love that is Saab. My 15 month old nephew absolutely loves cars right now, though in his vocab they're all "ucks." Being a responsible uncle, I simply had to order him one of the 9-3SS diecasts.

If only they were available in Steel Gray Metallic...

i think i saw an ad in a ski magazine for an Aero and i was completely blown away, hah. I then got to ride in my grandparent's 9000 when they had it, and my love for saabs slowly began to grow from there.

11th May 2004, 07:42 PM
That's my boy! OK, it's my brother's boy, but that's the 9-3SS he's playing with.

I was a Subaru kid. Mom had an '82 GL Wagon when I was born, and Dad had an '82 DL Hatchback. I wish I had that picture of myself holding up the keys to the "Suh-boo" as I was said to have called it back in the day.

I didn't pick up on Saabs till I was about 7 or 8. I knew a doctor that drove one and took me out for a ride in it, I think it was an '88 or '89 900S... pretty new at the time regardless. Then in 1994, the neighbor up the street bought a leftover 1993 900S Convertible and it was love at first sight. The car whirred down the street like a jet (a trait of those lovely 5-speed gearboxes) and I knew I had to have it.

Well the next year, on my 13th birthday, I got to drive the Saab for the first time in his driveway. A few years after that, let's say about 5 1/2 years later, I bought that Saab for the princely sum of $5000 and it was my 3rd Saab (2nd daily driver Saab, that is) and it served me well for a few years until I regretably sold it at the request of a certain ex-girlfriend to acquire a more sophisticated 1997 900SE Turbo. Damn that Liz, she screwed up so much stuff in my life!! :x

Anyway, the count goes as such for my Saabs throughout the years...

1: 1989 Saab 900 "Old Red" - 3/98 to 10/99 *
2: 1988 Saab 900T Parts Car - 5/99
3: 1993 Honda Civic (Not by choice) - 9/99 to 8/00 *
4: 1993 Saab 900S CV ".comvertible" - 8/00 to 9/02 *
5: 1978 Saab 99GL - 9/00 to 10/00
6: 1985 Saab 900S Notchback - 5/01 to 9/01
7: 1979 Saab 900EMS - 3/02
8: 1997 Saab 900SE Turbo - 3/02 to 5/03 *
9: 1985 Saab 900T - 7/02 to 8/02 *
10: 1973 Saab 99L - 9/02 to 11/02 *
11: 1987 Saab 900T - 5/03 to 10/03
12: 1994 Saab 9000 Aero - 10/03 to current day

* indicates wrongfully affected decision of purchase or sale by either: ex-girlfriend who still tries to stalk me on the evil Saab site that shall remain without a name, parents, or other unpleasant factor.

To bring it all together, today I am engaged to Zach's (ZingZACH) sister, Alicia. We both drive Saabs, she's got a 1995 900SE V6 and we've got a '73 Sonett down at Rhich's field that needs to get back on the road for some adventures :)

Well that's a helluva list, Carllevine.

I've never posted before but this thread hit home. I'm the son of a Swedish immigrant, who like any good Swede was from a Saab family (not a V0*%& family). The only cars my dad has owned for the last 40 years are as follows.

93 (I don't know the year)
96 (1968)
99 (1970)
900 (1986)
9-5 wagon (2002)
96 (1970)*

*I just bought and fixed up this car for his 72nd b-day. He now drives around town in it, giggling his ***** off. Anyway, working on the 96 made me fall back in love with SAABs. I'm thinking about a Saabaru 92x for the family wagon, and perhaps an old one to wrench on, on the weekends. :cheesy:
