They have a article on a 88 SPG. They say in the article, that the guy swapped a Viggen motor into it. I'm no C900 expert, but it looks like a 16V from the pics. It also shows its a 2.0L. I thought the Viggen has the same 2.3L from the 9-5 Aero?

Yup, thats Jeff Proposki's car, it has the viggen valve cover on it. Its an awesome car and has won many shows. I think he lives somewhere in New England.

If you look in the engine specs part of that article, it says 2.0L I-4 w/ 2.1L head.

Jeff and Royce of twinsaabs.com have a bunch of pictures of the car from the 2002 saab owners convention.

Yeah, the guy at Eurotuner who wrote the article and snapped the pics didn't seem to understand that Jeff's car has a C900 motor in it that has been seriously worked.... I think he missed the point of the badges and the valve cover. He even drives a 95 Aero. Oh well. However at the first 2 conventions after Jeff did up his car it was amazing at how many people thought it had a Viggen motor. What was worse is how many people actually thought it was a Viggen back at the 2000 Convention in New York.

Its still a sweet ride with eveything hes done. I've tried to start some things along the same lines, but money is a limiting factor. Helps that Jeff's shop is three miles down the road from me, and he's helped me out a lot on my car.

I kind of figured that it wasn't a 2.3L. My subscription to eurotuner is up in a couple months. I won't be renewing. It seems they just make up stuff as they go. Most of their articles seem like they were written by a fourteen year old.

thats cool that you live right next to jeff, your car doesn't look too bad either :D Gloucester is on the coast right?

Jeff should have said something like, Oh I just fabricated a little bracket and that viggen engine mates perfectly with the c900 tranny.

If they are anything like the "Tuner"/"Modding" mags here in the UK, like Max Power, Revs, Fast Car etc, then they are not written by 14yr olds, but they are written for 14yr olds.

RetroCars, and the soon to be unleashed Practical Performance Cars make up for that.

Yeah Gloucester and Rockport are right next to each other. When you see a map of MASS the point that sticks out into the ocean is us.

Jeff's body man Julian is a craftsman, he cut out a factory hood vent and then grafted it into the LHS fender for the intake. His airfilter you can see in one of the photos, it is enclosed from above with a plate so all the air coming in is cold and not from the engine bay.

There have been a few cars on the East Coast that have copied his intake setup, Brian Kidder's is the best so far.

what is with the speed limit 9 1/2 MPH?

Strangely enough that is an actual sign that leads out onto the fishing pier in the first shot. Who knows why they choose the speed, must be some kind of inside joke in Rockport.

I am not too happy with that little 9 1/2 MPH sign... It is almost like a slap in the face saying Saabs or slow... or that's how I interpritted it... anyone else see it that way? Anyways.. if people really thought that was a viggen motor, they need to be slapped lol. I saw the car and talked to him at SCD this year... he's a nice guy with a kick *** car... though he probably wouldn't remember me lol

Interesting that it looks as though he is running a stock turbo, exhaust, even the cast elbow. I guess that the OEM saab set up can't be THAT bad :o

Actually the stock system is o.k. But its not ideal for max performance. Its about the only remaining limiting factor in his cars breathing. The next thing planned for Jeff's car is a custom header setup, with 3 inch exh elbow, and external wastegate with an external dump. All to be done by the same farbricator that bent up all of his Intercooler piping.

That is a very nice car! I really like that side vent. Does anyone know what his performance numbers are, and what he has for a tranny?

Gearhead, that extra lens was an option called a Decor Panel. They are fairly rare, both the European style and the American style that is on Jeff's car.

I can see why they are rare.but seriously, what if it didnt have the decour panel and that area was just painted flat black.mmmmm

One thing about Jeff's decor panel is that he actually drilled out the panel and installed extra tailights in them. I had the opportunity to get a european decor panel for my car but I prefer the black offset in the middle. But to each his own since its all a matter of your own taste and style. I do know that Jeff was trying to get every factory piece that he could for his car.

Well the thing about it is if someone else wants to write into European Car or Eurotuner and your car is worthy they will do a story about it. Both mags have been looking for modified SAAB's to feature but no one is stepping up to the plate.

So if you know of any trick SAAB's take some pics and e-mail them to both mags and maybe you too can get published.

And just to let you know both magazines do have some dyed in the wool SAAB enthusiasts working for them.

Yeah I think European Car is a great mag, and Tim McKinney does as lot of articles on SAAB here in the states and across the pond. The articles are more in depth and informative. The only real good thing about this Eurotuner is that they put a lot more photos in of Jeff's car.

As I understand it it is not possible to put a 2.3L in a 2.0 car.

Something about the stroke being too deep and impacting the transmission or something... (I forget who told me this, but it was recently in some thread on here)

2.2 Turbo??

Johnnydel
7th May 2004, 10:36 PM
2.2 Turbo??[/quote]

Jeff's car used to have a seriously bored out block with custom pistons that brought his displacement up to 2.2 litres. However now he has a stock block bored .0020 over and is running B-Series pistons out of a 99 Turbo. This drops his comp ratio to 7.25 to 1 This lets Jeff run gobs of boost without worrying about detonating.

Isn't that 0.020" (20 thousands), not 0.002"?

Yeah, added an extra zero accidentally. Bored over 20 thousandths.

As for Carlisle unfortunately I have had my fun pass revoked for that weekend. Its understandable since Suzanne is due 10 days later and she didn't want me to be that far away just in case she goes early.

However I'll be attending SOG ( of course) The VT 100, and hopefully SAABTOBERFEST. As well as Swedish Car Day. Not going to SOC this year.
