Look for Saab to get a car based on General Motors’ Kappa small-car platform, most likely in the form of a sports car that harks back to Saab’s rally-bred Sonett. The possibility seems nearer now that Saturn’s Kappa car, based on the Curve concept created by the Saab advanced design team in Gothenburg, Sweden, has been given the go-ahead. “That we’re exploring a Sonett-inspired two-seater should be no surprise,” says a Saab source. A Sonett debut at the 2005 Frankfurt show is likely.

Yes, I mentioned that Saab was developing a new roadster a while back but that was all I knew, this looks like the missing info. Something to compete against the SLK and Z4 would be very good for Saab. I hope they give it a folding hard top like the SLK.

is the Chevy Nomad(9-X) on the same Kappa platform?
when i 1st saw this saturn i noticed how it resembled the 9-X and the Nomad. now i know why. it was designed by Saab :cheesy:
i think we'll get it. as long as people by the rebadged cars.

Saab and BMW have both gone with softtops on their recent convertibles. I know one reason Saab did it for was to keep more trunk space, and they did a great job on the packaging on the new convertible. BMW went with the softtop because they say it's just as quiet, is lighter and cheaper.
I also like the hardtops better, they look nicer. But having the extra trunk space is good. My friends SC430 couldn't hold a laptop.
BTW, the new VW convertible looks to be a hardtop *with* a sunroof.

I understand the trunk space thing, but I just really love the new '05 SLK. I think the soft top makes sense for a 4 seater, but is a 2 seater really supposed to be practicle anyways? :cheesy:

That's one ugly saturn. I know it's subjective, but I don't like it. The solstice version of the kappa is much more pleasant to the eye. The curves are more sustained and longer.
