: Is it a PPC issue???

I am not going to blame it on the PPC straight away but here is the story from A to Z:

This afternoon, I decided to take my father for a spin in the car. I wanted to show him the before and after effects of the PPC. So we drove up and we parked. Turned off the car and plugged in the PPC, turn to position On and pressed enter. It asked me to tune the car and i pressed on Enter. At 2% of the installation process, i heard some weird noise coming from the ECU box in under the hood. I knew something was wrong. Two seconds later, Stability Control Failure and Traction Control Failure, Contact Saab Dealer. The tunning continued as if nothing was wrong and i waited. Surprisingly, the car turned on, everything alright, except the ESP sign on the dash. It was still off!! I drove off and the power increased as normal. I stopped at a light and the turbo gauge was a little more than the 4th level which i thought was weird. I turned off the car and then back on, and the stability and traction came back on. The turbo gauge level went down to the 4th as usual and everything was fine. When i left the car, i noticed that the fan was still running which it never does in the cold weather that we have, but i thought its normal.

Can anyone justify or comment on what the hell is going on?

The PPC has to shut off these features while it is upgrading the system. I am not really sure why all the warnings popped up for you. I would email BSR and let them know what happened, but if everything is working correctly now, I say let sleeping dogs lay.

You will et all those messages and ECU? noise, normal. Remember the PPC is changing the turbo settings/boost so expect some differences there. As for the fan being on perhaps it (turbo) was a little bit warmer than usual, remember you have the PPC and if you were showing it off, I'm sure you were a bit heavier on the foot than normal :cheesy: . Warning lights staying on? - that happens regardless of PPC :nono;

My fans stay on in the winter, especially after a hard drive, they usually kick on a min or two after exiting the car.

Ok Saba, lol, i was showing it off. Thats the whole purpose man :cheesy: . The fan i am cool with, but when it was tuning, at around 2%, there came this weird noice and as i said before, i smelt trouble before it came. Anyway i called the dealership and i told him, "when i started my car today, bla bla bla" (u know, twisted the story A BIT) i got this weird warning signs from the Traction and Stability. He wanted me to bring it in, but i told him that it was ok now, and he told me not to worry about it then. So you guys are basically saying not to worry ???

What kind of error messages have you gotten ?

Steering lock malfunction, Engine malfunction, traction control malfunction, boot open, door open and a couple of others. No probs, It all settles when the PPC is finished and none remain displayed.

Everyting is normal..

even the turbo gauge level kan be different between gears if you run in +20 degrees or -20 degrees.. the ecu working to have a special hp and if there is warmer outside then it may have more turbo presure..

Sorry bad english.. i hope you understand..

I've found that if they do stay on after tuning, you need to remove the key completely, then put it back in and start the car again.

You are right. After tuning, they did not go away. I had to turn off the car and take out the key for everthing to get back to normal!

Although everything seemed to return to normal after "resetting" with key fob, why can't BSR look into getting rid of these error messages when they were designing the software? Or at least be up front with customers that this is an "alpha" version of the software and the bugs are "engine sounds, error signals etc.", and to let customers know that this is "normal".

I know, I know, I should just not think about these things and just buy it... 8) But hey, I am just being very careful, don't want to mess with the ECU and realize later than there are engine problems, which SAAB will not cover under warranty.

The PPC is not 'alpha' software it is completed. These messages are just a normal part of the upgrade process, and are the response of the various onboard sensors to the upgrade process. There is not anything physically wrong at all, as I say this is just the response from the various onboard sensors and certainly not bugs.....

I'd bet the same thing happens when the dealership upgrades any software components. The alarms are triggered at certain parameters. When you erase a parameter to write a new one it likely trips the alarm. Only way around that would be if the computer had some sort of diagnostic mode you could toss it into to tell it to ignore all parameters during programming but I'm guessing the Saab's computer doesn't have that or BSR would have used it. Probably annoyed the heck out of them during testing!

Error lights coming on when the module is being reprogrammed is perfectly normal. The reason is the engine control module communicates with a bunch of other modules constantly when the car is on or off (ABS is a good example). When the reprogramming starts those communications are disabled so ABS thinks the engine controller is malfunctioning and sets a light. Traction control and ESP failures are safety related an due to federal regulations they require a rekey to be cleared. Same goes for airbag or any other safety systems. The telltales must stay on until the driver rekeys the ignition (Its the law in the US and Canada).
The only way around this is to use a Tech 2 tool or someother GM tool that sends a special secret code to all modules saying that reprogramming is ocurring. GM does not just hand this code out to anyone and it is a fairly guarded secret because with it you can modify the parameters and activate any function of any module in the vehicle. BSR probably does not have access to this special code so we have to suffer through the lights turning on.
