Hello, I was looking at my intake today and I noticed that it actually intakes air from behind the grill. The other thing I noticed is that it was facing away from the grill. If I was to somehow modify it and make it point towards the grill would I get any performance benefits? It would be like a hood scoop. I know water might get in, but in the air box there is a gasket to let water out. Is this a good idea or should I just leave it alone?

leave it alone!!!! The possibility of water entering the filter is quite high. An example: say your driving in the rain and you go over a large puddle of water, you accidentally go over too fast, which in turn causes the water from the street to splash. NOW YOUR SCREWED!!!!!!! Filter intakes the water in, and say goodbye to your engine!!!!!! NOT A GOOD idea!!!!! Just a suggestion!!!

There is a new factory mod that removed the air intake from behind the front grille and repositions it towards the rear of the engine bay. Apparently this is designed to reduce moisture content by sucking in dry heated air which will reduce smoke (3.0 TiD).

relocate the current intake to suck in more COLD air! I find the way they set the intake is weird enough, and been wanting to shorten the passage ... obviously not much luck due to the layout in the engine bay as it is ... unless rebuilding the hood with a "scoop"... Nahhhh.

But hot air ??? Hmm....
