I'm entertaining the idea of maybe buying a 2010 or 2011 9-5 and I'm wondering if anyone here knows about the availability of parts for these cars. I'd heard that the Saab parts manufacturer was back up and running; does that include parts for the new 9-5?
Has anyone had trouble getting parts for this car? I'm under the impression that it's essentially just a Buick underneath so most of the mechanical elements are GM parts. Is that correct?
Parts are supposedly readily available. I haven't heard too many owners in here that needed parts, so that is a great thing. If you snoop around the above site they are going to be offering a warranty program. Seems encouraging since 2010-2011 owners were left without any support for quite a while.
Right now it seems like we're only having trouble finding windshields for the HUD, LDW etc. Pretty much anything that is 9-5 specific we may be SOL. Any "platform" parts are in fine supply albiet cheaper if purchased as buick or chevy parts and not through SPNA.
I think it's the design flaw. The socket is plastic, the bulb gets hot - plastic melts. I used safety wire to wrap the socket and hold the bulb in place. Hopefully that "fix" will last for a few years....
Thanks for the information! Perhaps reduce the fuse size? Not sure if that would help or hurt? Not sure which fuse it is and what else is on the same fuse?
I haven't seen the replacement part in stock yet.
Regards.

Fuses have nothing to do with this issue. An obvious solution would be to use a bulb that runs cooler (ideally LED), but then you'd run with an issue with the bulb failure warning. I tried replacing the factory 21w bulb with a 10w bulb (also halogen), however that triggered a bulb failure warning. Adding a resistor to the circuit to compensate for lower wattage bulbs should work, but I didn't have time to play with that yet.
My heated seat hasn't worked in over a year. The part is still backordered although the dealer tells me they expect the part fairly soon. I'm not holding my breathe!
My Saab shop called the supplier and now the tail light socket will not be available till March. Apparently the first part made for January did not pass Quality Inspection.:x

I did not compare the new and old ones-- so hard to say. I do have the old one and I am expecting delivery of a second (spare) socket Tuesday, so I can compare them at that time and let you know.
Stopped in at the local Saab parts depot (dealer)today and decided to buy two rear turn signal sockets...just because they had 'em in stock.
It does not appear to be significantly different from the OEM part.
My impression is that this issue has little to do with the socket & all to do with the lamp (light bulb) selection for this particular purpose. This lamp just needs more space to dissipate heat and should not be used for this particular purpose.
Let's hope the new sockets will hold up better. Good point on the wrong choice of bulbs, i tried a 10W halogen bulb in that taillight, it triggered the bulb warning although was as visible OEM 21w bulb. Of course one could wire a resistor in the circuit and use low wattage halogen or LED if the new sockets don't last.
I just purchased a 2011 Saab 9-5 Aero with 22,000 miles on it. The dealer never sold the car and used it for himself to drive. It is in brand spanking new condition with every option except the video screens on the headrest.
My question is where can i find a repair manual for this car?

I don't know where to get a repair manual. I had a owners manual with my car.
Sadly I had to sell my car, since I was ill and had to cut down my expenses.
I still have my 2004 9-5 wagon, purchased new, and it runs like a charm.
