ChadJ99 25-03-04, 12:47 PM it is pretty striahgt forward... There are 5 screws you need to remove (you can use the tools Saab provided in the trunk). The you kind of have to wrestle the cover off the air box to get the old one out. Once it is out, just slap the new one in...replace the screws..and you're off.
finklejag 25-03-04, 02:02 PM You will also have to remove the evap hose. Just press the two tabs and pull off.
Viscouse 25-03-04, 05:14 PM Make sure to note the airflow direction, and put the new one in the same way. Otherwise, it will work backward, and suck all the oil in the filter into your engine.
It's very straightforward, and easy to do.

finklejag 25-03-04, 05:46 PM Here is some pics to help you out.
The hardest part is lifting the lid of the airbox out. It is kinda wedged under the right fender.

Take two hands and squeeze the two tabs on top and on the bottom of the evap hose. Then pull out.

You will have to wrestle the cover back under the fender to line up the screws.
Good luck.
sjhudon 25-03-04, 05:51 PM I didn't take that hose off... but it sure was a pain wedgen that thing back in..
finklejag 25-03-04, 05:52 PM I think some people remove the clamp on the MAF side. I guess it makes it easier.
nestoraero 25-03-04, 07:04 PM I didn't took the small front hose off either..
In my friends 175hp,there is no such hose....what is it?
finklejag 25-03-04, 07:14 PM It the Evap purge regulator hose. It has to do with emissions.
nestoraero 25-03-04, 07:26 PM Ok,that's what I thought also, but why it does not exist on the 175 hp engine?
ChadJ99 25-03-04, 07:28 PM Finkeljag (or Chris, I think)..emissions, huh!!!.. .I don't have that hose either. I figured CALI had most strict laws...
I kind of wondered what that fitting was for. :idea

You don't have it in the aero????? :o
That is odd, I have it :o

I would think all US cars would have that. :-?
Nestor. Did you and your friend buy your cars in the same country? Maybe some countries require it?
Larakin 25-03-04, 11:19 PM I have an 03 Arc and it has it, the loaner I am driving at the moment is an 04 Linear and it does not have it. They are both US Cars in Colorado.

We both got them from Belgium, from the same dealer....I took it first and then he took it after onr month...both 03 models...
LinearSLT 26-03-04, 09:36 AM The 2003 cars have an air pump to deal with emissions, the 2004's don't and I'm guessing that they have that fitting instead as part of the circuit that allowed them to get rid of the air pump.

And why is there a difference between my aero and my friends arc(175hp)??
Both early 03 models....
imasmokeyou 26-03-04, 11:09 AM Thanks for all the help everyone! I'll let you know how it goes i'll probably put it in on sunday.
