Hello all.
I just wanted to report on a recent mod to the N/A 2.5L '94 900S.
As inspired by David Vizards' How to Build Horsepower, I decided to try a Plasma Booster wired up in-line with the ignition coil on my little daily commuter.
I believe in using ignition boxes, I have a MSD 6a on my Chevy v8 powered hot rod. And I use them on alot of other builds, so when I caught wind of the Plasma Booster and how it works I wanted to give it a shot.
I found a Booster on EBay, designed to work for V6 Ford Mustangs, Explorers & Rangers. (with waste spark). And it look all of 3 minutes to wire up and mount.

The booster fit perfectly in an unused bracket just above the coil. I did however raise the mounting of the bracket to reduce heat transfer from the engine.
The way the booster works, it creates a capacitive/resonance feedback loop that fires the spark plug 4-6 times at an amplified current. The resonance actually swings back and forth more than 4-6 times but the current is too low to actually fire the plug.

My first reaction after the install was 'It's nice', it smoothed the idle out a bit and has more off the line torque. It also cured a prolonged cranking time at cold start. As is usual with these kind of things, the gains aren't justified by the cost (Roughly $190 US), but now that I have it I'm happy with it and will continue to use it. I am also in hopes of gaining some MPG too, Perhaps in a year or so time the unit will have paid itself off (If the overseas quality of manufacturing and parts lasts that long).
Cheers ~Mykk
